This beautiful Standardbred mare is looking for her forever home. She is a super sweet girl with very nice ground manners. She is low ranking in the herd. And accepted every new pasture mate she was introduced to. Not buddy sour. Not marish. You can walk her by a pasture of wound up admirers. 😍 Loads easily. Kerry Miller started her under saddle for the Rescued to Stardom program at the 2018 Horse World Expo. (She was previously trained under harness.) She had an amazing experience at the Expo. Imagine the exposure. She handled it with confidence! ... She has continued gaining confidence as a horse, loved for being her, versus a breeding machine, and is looking for her very own person to continue her new life with. 💗 .. She even participated in a Julie Goodnight clinic!!

Then bought by a kill buyer. :( . . She was one of the fortunate ones. Life Horse volunteers happened to be there that day at that very moment. . . .Please follow the journey of a very lucky career broodmare. Her new name is Katie. Her page is Katie - Rescued To Stardom by Life Horse Inc. She is receiving ground and saddle training by Kerry Miller to compete at the PA Horse World Expo in the Rescued to Stardom challenge. Katie will proudly represent the Standardbred breed and show the world that a teenage, career broodmare CAN “learn a new trick” and have a healthy fulfilling second chance at life!! . . . Our goals are to:
* Showcase Katie so she can find a loving home,
* Showcase the amazing Standardbred breed's characteristics (Katie is the only Standardbred in the challenge),
* Show the world that a teenage career broodmare CAN "learn a new trick" and become a viable member of the equine community with another skill set. Slaughter is NOT a necessary end to a horse's first "career". There ARE alternatives.
* Educate folks on slaughter and provide insight into how to keep horses safe.
* Educate folks on Life Horse's humanitarian mission, which is to provide "rescue" to individuals who can benefit from non-judgmental time with a rescued therapy horse. Yes, Life Horse rescues humans too!!

Just a brief update for everyone! Yesterday, the Advantage Horsemanship Show Team had their first horse show of 2018 and Kerry is an instructor for the team. We decided this would be a great environment to haul Katie out to to prepare her for the Horse World Expo in March! Katie was hand walked around the large facility and then groundworked in a warmup arena. Though she was not ridden, this was a great hurdle to leap over! She worked through standing tied to the trailer while other horses came and went (she certainly wasn't happy when they went!), worked through her anxiety on the ground in the arena and had to trailer with 5 other horses. We will call this a successful training day for Katie!

Katie had a GREAT ride this morning! We worked on getting the steering down pat, getting her to bend, and moving off leg aids, which is the start of getting her body to move in different ways. We worked on some obstacles too! AND we walked back to the barn for her very first mini trail ride!! Katie is really excelling! She really enjoys doing things and is very willing to be a partner! . . . We'd love to hit the trails early next week! . . . If you are looking for a SAFE w/t horse or trail horse, this is your girl!
