We are back to classes and galloping forward. We are operational but are still very much in need of horses between 14 and 16 hh. Due to retirements and some sad losses we are very short on horses. If anyone has a sound and potentially therapeutic horse under 20 yrs old, please contact us.
Our local and horse communities have been generously supportive. We greatly appreciate EVERYTHING everyone has done to help us reach our goal of returning to providing therapeutic riding classes for 40 students this Fall. Many of our volunteers pitched in last Fall, Winter and Spring to help feed and take care of horses. They helped to prepare the new barn and set up the tack room. They cleaned and assembled tack. They helped to recreate our old teaching materials, adaptive tack and supplies lost in the fire. We definitely know who our friends are.
One of our very special volunteers is Lee. She has gone above and beyond to help our program revive and flourish. She has helped feed horses and ponies in all kinds of weather. She has coordinated volunteer work crews. She cleaned tack and helped organize our donated tack when it was inventoried in the big trailer and then helped to set up our tack room. She serves as our volunteer coordinator managing our volunteer corp of 60 volunteers. Lee has generously provided countless hours to our program working tirelessly to reach our lofty goals. We recognize and sincerely thank her for her dedication. She is a vital member of our family.

We are looking for horses and ponies to join our therapeutic riding program. Must be SOUND at walk and trot. Should be less than 20 years old. Need to be bomb proof, gentle and more slow than go. Open to 12 hh to 16 hh. Depending on $ we may be able to purchase or consider a longer (2year renewable) lease situation. Please call Debbie at (301) 788-6418. We have had some recent retirements and need to add to our herd of equine therapists. If you have a special horse who can help our riders experience the joy horses can bring, let’s talk.

Great news. We are getting closer to our goal. The barn looks great. We are busy setting things up. Now we are waiting on electricity. Tater was out practicing his skills today. A beautiful day to ride and spend time with the horses. We appreciate all the help we received from our caring community to make this possible.

We recently received these donations from Lewistown Mt. View 4H Club. All of our teaching fun stuff was lost in the fire. We could also really use some colored plastic horseshoes like these pictured on right. Used is fine. They don’t need to be sets-random colors. Please message me if you have some and we’ll connect.

Feeling grateful. Our barn is shaping up. We still have finishing details happening inside but it’s moving along nicely. Student pre-registration letters went out today. As of now, we hope to be back in the saddle September 8. We are also beginning to send out the call for Volunteers. They are the ❤️ of our program. If you would like to explore becoming a volunteer, please text or email our Volunteer Coordinator Lee. Cell 301-466-8316 or [email protected]. She will be very happy to hear from you and will get back to you. No horse experience required. We will train you. Barn help must be 12 yrs old and volunteers must be 14 to work in ring with students. It’s a great way to get exercise and lots of fun.

The barn is coming along nicely. We’ve begun rebuilding essentials needed to get our program up and going again. We lost all our adaptive equipment in the fire so we are recreating. I thought it might be fun to share some of our special homemade adaptive tools that help our riders achieve their goals.
These are our self-made walk on and whoa buttons. They are used by our non-verbal riders to communicate with their horse and riding team. On the left are the components that go into each button set. Yes, they are mason jar lids and repurposed blanket straps. This aid snaps onto the saddle d rings. They provide a voice to riders who need one. They also help our riders achieve more independence and build self-confidence.

We’re really taking shape. The picture on the right is our future trp tack room. Contractor hopes to have basic barn finished end of May. Then we start the fun part of putting the program back together. Going to be lots of work but we are so ready to be up and trotting again. Thank you to all those who have helped us in so many ways to rebuild our program.

Bambi and Cupcake, our therapy horse ambassadors, recently visited Sabillasville Environmental School to share information about our therapeutic riding program. Students learned about safety, adaptive equipment, horse care and the physical, emotional and therapeutic benefits horse interactions can help provide to humans. Outreach visits like this are supported by grant funds from the Maryland Horse Industry Board through the MD Horse Discovery Centers Program.

We are looking for donations of 2 CHEST FREEZERS for our new barn. One around 7 cubic and one around 22 cubic. They don’t need to work. They just need to be clean, no mold present and solid with no rust holes. They store our feeds. Also need clean used REFRIGERATOR for meds, apples, carrots and water for new barn. Please text or call Debbie at (301) 788-6418. We can pick up if necessary.
