This pretty friend came in a few weeks ago after being hit by a car. Yesterday they were finally healed up and ready to go to their new forever home at Chubby Goat Acres! 😊

Progress was made on our 2nd squirrel enclosure today! We still need to build the airlock to keep any squirrels from escaping, but the main section is built!

Huge thank you to Adam, Ash, Gayle, and Zack for working on this today for us!! And thank you to everyone who donated to help cover the cost of the supplies!!

Good morning from our baby opossums!

We're currently swamped in babies and on an intake hold and only able to take animals on a case by case basis until some of our current babies get a bit bigger and we finish some more outdoor enclosures.

If anyone is attending Wild Kratts tonight at Miller Auditorium stop in and see us at our booth outside! We'll be hanging out with several other fantastic local Animal/Nature nonprofits and talking about what we do, and we'd love to see you!

Good morning, friends! Liz here.

It's my birthday!!!

We've been super busy caring for lots and lots of babies (birds, opossums, woodchucks, squirrels, cottontails, a chipmunk), and building enclosures and we are in need of quite a few supplies! I said we were going to start off slow, but our plethora of tiny patients show that was a dream lol. The animals in need far outnumber the licensed rehabbers able to take them, especially in our area of Michigan, so we've stepped up to take in as many as we reasonably can, but after taking a year off to prepare our new location we are not as stocked up and prepared as we need to be. I've updated our Amazon wishlist and I'll post that below.

One of our main needs right now is building supplies, especially rolls of the 1/2 inch hardware cloth to finish up several enclosures that we will need to move babies into soon! We've purchased some of the lumber we needed to finish another squirrel enclosure but we will need to purchase more of that very soon as well.

We also need more Esbilac! This is one of our most used formulas and we're running very low!

We also always need cleaning supplies and paper towels! We do soooooooo much cleaning!

I could also use several more heating pads, and I've included the specific ones I need on the Amazon list. These ones don't have the automatic shut off so babies stay warm around the clock, and the cord detaches so I can fit them through the bars of my critter nation cages to fit them under the trays inside.

I've also included some mesh sided crates for our songbirds to help protect their wings. Since the move I can't seem to find any of my smaller mesh enclosures, and the bigger one I have doesn't work well in our new intake room so I really need to start fresh with some new ones that will work in our current space.

Another current need is fresh produce, especially leafy green varieties! If you have extra veggies or fruits, or extra space in your garden to put in a couple of extra plants for us we would be so greatful! We spend hundreds of dollars a week on fresh produce alone keeping all or our patients fed. This can be dropped off to our Three Rivers location at any time, just send us a message for our address!

We're also still looking for new volunteers. Volunteers helping us with the animals need to be over 18, and commit to working at least one shift a week (typically 4-5 hours), but multiple shifts a week is even better if you have the time. Our busiest times are mornings, but evenings are also busy! Duties include feeding critters, lots of cage cleaning, assisting with treatments and medications if needed, laundry, dishes, sweeping and mopping, etc. All volunteers will need to be sub permitted and approved by the DNR. If you're interested please fill out the volunteer form on our website at Www.allcreaturesdeserving.org

As always, thank you all for your support! We can't do what we do without all of you! We are a completely non-paid volunteer run rescue, and we run entirely on your generous donations or out of our own pockets.

“I found a baby mouse with fur, how do I know if it’s orphaned or not?”

I got you- Let’s talk tails…

You may know how to check for “milk lines” in pinkies, but do you know how to tell if an older, fluffier mouse is dehydrated? Let me tell you the method that I find to be the easiest for beginners… No handling required- you just need to be able to see its tail!

Between these 2 mice… Can you tell me which mouse has been without its mother for longer?

Normal, Plump tail = hydrated baby

Shriveled, bony tail = very dehydrated baby

So if you guessed “shriveled, bony tail baby… you’d be correct!” In fact this mouse mother had likely not returned to the nest in days. (Not because she’s a bad mom neither, something likely happened to her)

Depending on the circumstances in which it was found, I may attempt a reunite on the plump-tailed baby. However, I would NOT attempt reunite on the shriveled-tailed baby… I would recommend that baby be taken to a rehabber as soon as possible.
