Awaken, taking place November 5-8 in the mountains near Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a three-day experience for male-identified people. Attendees are invited into reflection, connection, and shared practice — exploring what it means to live from the sacred masculine.

“What is the focus of this retreat?”
Self-Compassion is mentally treating yourself the way you want to be treated.

“What is the purpose of this retreat?”
However, most never learned this; the consequences are the negative feelings we experience, which is suffering. You will learn to recognize suffering, why it happens, and how to minimize it by being self-compassionate.

“Why come to this retreat?”
Why would I want to come to this retreat?  I can learn how my mind automatically creates my suffering.  Then work with and train it to minimize that suffering by loving and being kinder to myself.  Thus, enabling me to be more loving to others.

There is an African proverb that says:
“If the youth are not initiated, they will burn down the village.”

Witnessing the dysfunction in society, especially in our politics, maybe it is time to once again return to this wisdom practice for the benefit of our sons, as well as for the benefit of society and the world. Here is an opportunity to draw closer to your son and also gift him with a safe – while yet edgy – initiation experience.

Come participate in meaningful rituals, experience time in nature and spend quality time with your son.

You’re warmly invited to join us for a two-day gratitude retreat where we’ll slow down, step into the woods and spend time in councils and larger circles to listen deeply, learn from one another and share stories around the fire.  The days will include quiet time in the beautiful DeSales forest, space for reflection and the simple gift of being together with other men walking a similar path.  
 
We’ll ponder gratitude by honoring the quiet recognition that life is constantly giving, even while it is also taking.  It is the practice of keeping one’s eyes open to what is still alive, still generous and still worth tending.  As our former Co-Convener Tom Pawlak often says, “it’s about keeping a ‘yes’ in your heart.” 
 
I also want to extend a special invitation to the newer councils in Indiana and Michigan that have formed since COVID changed so much of how (and where) we’ve gathered. It’s exciting to see how this brotherhood has grown across the states.  This retreat is a wonderful chance to meet brothers from across the region, strengthen those growing circles and weave deeper connection across our communities.
