The hard continues…

Lily came to us a mere 2 1/2 years ago. She’d been raised with a dog by a family and was a delight from day one! Social, loved walking on leash, playful - enjoyed the trampolines as much as throne as a toy! Lily had arthritis, and it got really bad over the winter. Even with pain meds twice a day, she was walking on her front elbows and struggled to get outside into the sun. We want all here to live out their full lives in the peace and protection of sanctuary, and sometimes that means not allowing suffering. As hard as it is, watching pain you can’t control for someone was even harder. Her mom brought her favorite treats this past week, apple chips, triskets, and beautiful ge**er Daisy’s!

Thank you Cynthia, for sharing Lily with us and the community! She got to live the best goat/dog country life ever!

Today marks a turning point for the Sanctuary. Our Elder alpaca Roy, equal parts regal and gentle, has passed. He was 28 which is ancient for an alpaca, and the last member of the original 13 who lived here when we purchased the land. If you’ve been to our website, you’ve seen him up close and personal. 😍

The top picture is of the 6 boys in the original herd, and if ya look really close, Roy has quite a smile on him. The pic on the left was the first I took here, and on the right, the last. His eyes and eyelashes were only shadowed by the poses he struck. The video was from just 2 weeks ago. We knew this day was coming. In fact, the vet was coming to be sure he died without suffering on Friday. But Roy knew it was time, and chose to lay down outside where both the sun and the almost full moon could shine on him, and slowly exhaled. He will be with us always.

Have you ever noticed that some people can't stop horsing around when there is work to be done!!!🤣. Pepe (our quarter horse) loves to work with everyone, as we prepare to get ready for this coming season.
