501c3 nonprofit organization with a mission to extend summer program opportunities to local MI kids! Islay's Barrel is an extension of that concept.

Islay's Barrel, is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, with a mission to extend summer program opportunities to South West Michigan children who, without assistance, would otherwise not have the means to enjoy. Through various fundraisers, the newly created Islay's Barrel raises money to send local recipients to summer programs. In 2012, just two years after the start of Journeyman Distillery, proprietors Bill and Johanna Welter, gave birth to their daughter Islay. At this time,
a 53 gallon barrel of Rye wh***ey was filled for the benefit of her future education. Instead of two parents, a network of people, who want to see kids in the community get the enrichment they deserve by providing opportunities to develop and be inspired by a personal connection to nature. This is also a chance to support valuable programs, such as the Dunes Learning Center and Camp Eberhart, that serve kids in your community. Because of the generosity of friends like you, we are able to continue to enhance the lives of the students and families we serve both socially and academically!

At Barrel-Aged Brewfest, every pour keeps that mission alive. 🍻 And this year, Sea Of Monsters is bringing a barrel-aged surprise—plus some of their top brews crafted just for the fest.

On October 11, craft and community come together for a cause close to our hearts.

🍻 Islay’s Barrel 8th Annual Barrel-Aged Brewfest brings breweries and distillers from across the region to Journeyman Distillery. More than just a celebration of barrel-aged b**r, this event fuels Islay’s Barrel Foundation, a nonprofit that provides youth in Southwest Michigan with access to summer camps and enrichment programs.

What started in 2012 as a single barrel set aside for our daughter’s future has grown into a foundation helping kids discover theirs.

Join us for an evening where every glass poured makes a difference.
