✨BMYF on the Importance of :❤️🖤💚✊🏾
Juneteenth is now a Federal Holiday meant to commemorate the { } of the last remaining Black slaves on June 19, 1865.
: From 1861-1865, The of was engaged in a vicious CivilWar between the Union and the Confederacy. Slavery was one of the most serious issues being fought over. Basically, the Confederacy was fighting hard to keep Black people enslaved. The Confederate Flag is a representation of their evil efforts and one of the Confederacy’s most beloved symbols!
❤️ In September 1862, Abraham Lincoln signed the to FREE all Black slaves in the Confederacy.
🖤Surprisingly, this proclamation **did not** instantly free ALL Confederate slaves and only allowed the Union army to free all the Black slaves it encountered on its military journey…..
This method of freeing Black slaves was ineffective and inefficient!
❤️Consequently, Texan Black slaves were IGNORED !!! Can you imagine !!!! See, Texas did not have a huge Union Army presence because didn’t have many field battles, thus, it did not have a large Union army presence. And again, it was left up to the Union Army to “free all the Black slaves it encountered on its military journey”…..
💚Now, after the 13th Amendment in January 1865 and the Union Victory in April 1865, General Granger visited , Texas on JUNE 19th, 1865, and read an important Declaration called *General Order No. 3* - which transmitted the news of the to those Black slaves and informed them of their . This day, called Juneteenth (June 19th), marks the day the last remaining Black slaves were emancipated!!
🖤On June 17th, 2021, President signed Juneteenth into a Federal Holiday.
