We had the pleasure of participating in the City of Thornton, Colorado Government's 19th annual Trunk Or Treat this past Saturday. The weather was perfect and the event was a huge hit. Thank you to the Union members and great showing from the TYCO members who made this event a success. Congratulations goes out to one of the TYCO members who will soon be joining the City of Thornton Fire Department as part of our newest recruit class.

This is more important than ever as more and more see 1710 staffing as a luxury rather than a minimum staffing standard.

📈WHAT THE STUDIES TELL US 📈

📊Rigorous, independent research proves that numbers on the apparatus directly translate to lives saved:

The NIST Landmark Study: Controlled live-burn research by the National Institute of Standards and Technology demonstrated that larger crews complete critical fireground tasks up to 30% faster than understaffed teams.

The FSRI Health & Safety Study: Research by the Fire Safety Research Institute confirms that the 4-person baseline is a floor, not a ceiling. Moving to a 5-person model dramatically reduces extreme physical exhaustion, limits rapid fire growth, and minimizes toxic gas exposures.

Real-World Performance Outcomes: Field simulations evaluating engine crew sizes showed that adding personnel yields an 11% faster time to put water on the fire, a 27% faster victim removal time, and a staggering 74% improvement in establishing a reliable water supply.

Thornton Professional Firefighters share our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Lt. Chad Tellinger; a friend, peer, and mentor to many within our organization. Please keeping the North Metro Fire Rescue District family in your thoughts.

It is with great sadness that North Metro Fire Rescue District announces the off-duty death of Lieutenant Chad Tellinger due to illness. Chad was hired by North Metro in 1998 and proudly served the community and organization for more than 27 years. He was 52 years old.

Chad was a highly respected firefighter, mentor, IAFF Local 2203 leader, and beloved family man whose loss is deeply felt across the North Metro family. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sisters, and his mother.

The District is working closely with Chad’s family to coordinate services and support. With the family’s permission, additional information will be shared in the coming days.
