The end of TPS protections has left more than 300,000 Haitians in the United States facing uncertainty about their future.

With Haiti still facing violence, insecurity, and a humanitarian crisis, many families are left with difficult choices.

Womenful Voice stands in solidarity with the Haitian 🇭🇹 community and all those affected by this uncertainty.

Meet Harshini Sanjay | Team Member Spotlight

Every volunteer brings their own story and skills to Womenful Voice.
For Harshini Sanjay, it’s a love for creativity, curiosity, and finding ways to make her work meaningful.

As a Creative Volunteer, she’s spent the past year exploring different kinds of creative work while learning along the way. We asked her a few questions to get to know her better.

🎙What brought you to Womenful Voice?

“I’ve always enjoyed doing creative work, but I wanted to find a way to make it meaningful too. When I learned about the work Womenful Voice is doing for women and children in Haiti, I felt it was a place where I could use what I already knew while continuing to learn.”
🎙How long have you been part of the team?

“It’s been a year since I joined as a Creative Volunteer, and no two days really look the same.”
🎙What does your work usually look like?

“Sometimes I’m researching for a blog. Sometimes I’m working on a design. Other times, I’m figuring out how to make a simple idea more creative and engaging.”
🎙What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

“I love that variety. There’s always something new to learn, and I get to keep doing something I genuinely enjoy.”
We’re grateful to have Harshini bringing her creativity, curiosity, and fresh ideas to the Womenful Voice team.

Agriculture is an instrument to improve women’s role in Haitian society.

Thanks to our Communal Garden they gain knowledge & they strengthen their leadership.

Moreover, supporting innovative agricultural techniques in Haiti helps to restore communities which are deeply affected by the capital’s insecurity 🌴

🌱 What if one garden could grow far more than food?

Womenful Voice’s Communal Garden Initiative in Ouanaminthe combines food production with hands-on education, helping families learn sustainable gardening techniques, water conservation, soil health management, backyard garden design, and ways to generate small-scale income.

The goal is bigger than one garden. Families can take what they learn and replicate the model at home, strengthening household food security and long-term resilience. Women are also encouraged to participate in leadership, training, outreach, and economic activities connected to the gaden.
Because a garden can produce food today while helping build knowledge, opportunity, and resilience for tomorrow. 💜

Today, August 26, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day.

We remember the women who fought for the right to vote and helped open doors for generations to come.

At Womenful Voice, we believe every woman and girl deserves the opportunity to learn, lead, and have her voice heard.

Celebrate and share this post.

For generations, Haitian women have carried knowledge of plants, food, and traditional practices with them — passing that knowledge across families, communities, and even borders. 🌿

Research by the New York Botanical Garden with 100 Haitian-born women living in New York City found that 97% had used medicinal plants while living in Haiti, while 83% continued using them after moving to New York. The research also found no significant decline in plant knowledge across generations — a powerful reflection of how this knowledge continues to be preserved.

Plants such as ti bonm (spearmint), papaya, garlic and beets are among the examples documented, connecting plants not only with food, but with health, culture and knowledge passed down through generations.

At Womenful Voice, this reminds us of the wider importance of protecting the environments in which communities grow and thrive. Through initiatives such as our Communal Garden Project and reforestation efforts, we work to strengthen food security, encourage sustainable practices, and support healthier, more resilient communities in Haiti. 🌱🇭🇹

When we invest in the land, we invest in more than what grows today — we help create the conditions for knowledge, nourishment and communities to continue growing tomorrow.

💜 Support the cause and help us cultivate stronger communities in Haiti.

After heavy rainfalls the Massacre River swelled past its banks. Of the 3,350 trees planted, just 400 survived.
We planned to clear the site from wild grass, make an agronomic analysis of stability, fortify the banks with bamboo & engage the local community 💪
