Radical Joy for Hard Times

Radical Joy for Hard Times Radical Joy for Hard Times is a worldwide network of people devoted to making beauty in wounded places. Welcome to Radical Joy for Hard Times.

Creating a thriving, sustainable future on Earth depends upon opening our hearts to the natural world in its brokenness as well as its splendor. You are already part of this revolutionary new environmentalism if:

- you’re worried about the future of the planet, not just because you fear global warming and other ecological challenges, but because you love the natural world in all its splendor and

diversity and you grieve its passing;
- you think of yourself as an environmentalist, but somehow you feel you’re never doing enough to make a difference;
- you feel heartbroken when places you love are wounded by clear-cutting, urban sprawl, toxic waste, and other ecological assaults. And you have no idea what to do with these feelings. Radical Joy for Hard Times introduces a new, more intimate environmentalism for all citizens of the Earth. Together we go to wounded places to bear witness to what has happened, share the stories of our experience, discover beauty even in the midst of wound and waste, and create Acts of Beauty there.

Our 17th annual Global Earth Exchange will be on June 20, and we hope you can join us!

This is a FREE annual worldwide event where people gather at places they love that have been wounded, neglected, or are under threat — burnt forests, polluted rivers and streams, eroded coastlines, abandoned urban spaces, clear-cut lands, reefs, deserts, or other sacred places under threat. Participants visit these places together, or even solo, spend time with these places, and create art as a gift back to the places.
The idea behind a Global Earth Exchange is simple but powerful: instead of turning away from wounded places, people turn toward them to bear witness, deepen connection to place, and to the human and nonhuman world.

Our registration form will be coming out soon, but for now, save the date!

What if the opposite of despair isn’t hope — but connection? 🌍

On June 20, 2026, we are holding our 17th annual Global Earth Exchange. For the past 16 years, people have gone to hurt places to witness, listen, create art, share stories, and experience radical joy in a changing world.

It isn’t about pretending everything is fine. It’s about discovering joy, resilience, and community because the world is hurting — not in spite of it.

By joining, you’ll connect with a community of people across the globe who care as deeply as you do about the Earth. Join us to transform your grief into action and belonging. We are not alone during these times.

In hard times, joy is a fierce act of resistance.

Sign up for our newsletter by follwing the link in the comments so we can keep you updated on how to register and more.
