We are open for the 2026 season!! Come visit us and our new main exhibit on the History of Cars in Sanders County. We are open every day from 12-4 pm. We have a number of new books and t-shirts in the gift shop.

In Need of Volunteers/Docents for upcoming season!!!

May 10- September 30, 2026 (12-4 pm)

Help out your community by volunteering at the Old Jail Museum. Little training needed and will be provided. Flexible days and hours to volunteer.

Volunteering is a great opportunity to learn about the history of Sanders County, meet community members and visitors to Sanders County and Thompson Falls, and help keep the Old Jail Museum doors open.

The Old Jail Museum - Sanders County Historical Society is a great place to learn about the history of Sanders County, Montana. One way of helping keep this great museum open and providing a great place to visit is with the help of our members. We appreciate the support of our community and visitors in helping us making this an asset to Sanders County.
We are currently conducting our 2026 membership drive. We are a non-profit organization which allows for donations to be tax deductible.
The membership provides members with a discount on events (Jail Talk Events) we have during the year, a newsletter twice a year with local historical facts and stories, helping this great museum stay open to the community.
There is a membership form attached, but we can also do credit card transactions if you would prefer that. If you are interested or would like to ask any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected] or 406-615-2050.

Looking for a Christmas gift? Come buy a raffle ticket for a gift basket and support the Old Jail Museum - Sanders County Historical Society (non-profit) at the same time.

$2.00 per ticket or 3 for $5.00.

We will be set up at Harvest Foods on November 25 and December 2 from 1 pm-5 pm. If you are unable to stop by and would like to buy a raffle ticket we will be set up at the Old Jail Museum on December 5th (2 pm-6 pm) and December 6th (10 am-6 pm) or you can contact us at [email protected].

If you didn't make it to the Walk and Talk with the Dead event on October 25 here a few videos and pictures of the fun. Come join us next time! It was great fun with many stories of our local deceased residents.
