Thomasville Beautification Committee The City Beautification Committee meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at 8:30 a.m. in the Board Room of City Hall, 10 Salem St. unless otherwise notified.

The City Beautification Committee is a group of dedicated volunteers appointed by the Thomasville City Council to oversee all beautification projects for our town and create an awareness of the beautification of our town. The idea is that through the committee's efforts and through awareness, Thomasville benefits in terms of Economic Development and recruitment, as well as a sense of pride in a clean and beautiful community. Projects this committee is responsible for include the planting of the flower beds at the Welcome signs, the Big Chair, the fountain downtown, the mini-park and the bed at the intersection of Julian Avenue and Randolph St. If you need to contact City Beautification with concerns, questions or comments, please call 336-475-4219, or you may email at [email protected].

On behalf of our committee, I would like to thank everyone who came by to visit us yesterday during Everybody’s Day. After taking break last year it was great to be back and see so many friendly and familiar faces! If you did purchase mums, here are a few suggestions:
-They like water, so do not let them dry out, but don’t over water.
-Always water them directly onto the dirt, not on the blooms.
-They also like sun!
-You can plant them directly into your garden once they’ve stopped blooming. -Water them there as well and use well draining soil.
We hope you enjoy them as long as possible! Our grower brought the ones that had not quite “cracked open” so the blooms will last longer. If you “deadhead” them you will get a longer blooming cycle (pinch off the old blooms).
A concern was brought to my attention. People were observed sitting on the railroad tracks, eating there and allowing children to play there. This is extremely dangerous. Although the railroad is always made aware of the events taking place downtown and they do slow down significantly, they cannot stop those trains on a dime when someone is on the tracks. We had multiple trains pass through yesterday, even two at a time. If you need to cross them on foot, do it quickly but do not linger! We know that many out of town visitors find the trains to be very intriguing, but please be smart and keep a safe distance from the tracks.

*We will have a litter sweep on Thursday, 9/24, at 2:00. Meet at the Clocktower and, bring gloves and wear comfortable shoes.
*Friday, 9/25, Everybody’s Night at 5:30. A great music lineup, line dancing, food trucks, etc.
*Saturday, 9/26, Everybody’s Day, beginning at 9:00. We will be set up in front of the gazebo/bandstand, selling mums, Big Chair prints and giving away some freebies! Please come by to see us!
