Here are a few final reminders and important details regarding the Modified Trap Meeting scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Georgia National Fairgrounds.

There is a 56% chance of rain for Saturday with morning thunder showers. The low will be 62 and the high 79 degrees! Be prepared! Don't forget to wear your Thomas County 4-H t-shirt!

Please refer to the attached map of the fairgrounds, which shows the shooting line, parking areas, and other key points. Fairgrounds staff will be on-site to assist with traffic and parking. We ask that everyone be courteous and patient, as this is a new event for all involved. We appreciate your cooperation in making this a successful experience.

Tent Set-up: Tents are allowed for this event. Counties may set up tents on Friday afternoon between 5:00 and 7:00PM. A clearly marked line is 40’ behind the target line. All tents and materials must be behind this line. There will be time to add tents on Saturday morning. On Saturday, supplies must be carried from behind the parking barrier. To maintain a safe space, vehicles must remain behind the parking barriers.

It is extremely important that all coaches are present at 9:00AM for the coaches meeting. This is our first time holding the state match at the GNFA in Perry, and there will additional information to cover. We plan to make the line hot at 9:30AM

Station Assignments: We will be at station 13 along with Decatur, Seminole, Grady, Mitchell and Early County.

They will have two double stations: 1 for Juniors and 1 for Seniors. The doubles stations will be midfield.

Due to the timing of Saturday morning's sunrise, please ensure that all shooters come prepared with appropriate eye protection. This may include tinted safety glasses or sunglasses.

Coaches and staff members should come to registration prepared to designate their teams and identify the individuals who will be receiving scorecards.

To ensure the match runs efficiently, please have junior competitors shoot first at your stations. Turn in scorecards to the scoring tent as soon as they are complete.

Concessions will be available!

In 2019, Thomas County 4-H’er Cannon Wheeler was the High Overall Individual at the Georgia State 4-H Modified competition and there were 842 shooters that year! (Our Senior Team also won 1st place at State that year and all attended State 4-H Congress in Atlanta and all received Master 4-H status!)

After Cannon graduated from high school, he became a Certified Thomas County Adult Volunteer and in the summer of 2024, he attended 4-H camp as our Adult Male Chaperone! It was important to Cannon to be able to “give back” to 4-H because he recognized that many volunteers had given their time and talent to him when he was a 4-H’er!

Two of our current Junior SAFE members attended camp with us that summer - Rowan Pierce and Lane Walker - and both spent a week with Cannon at Jekyll Island! These boys built an incredible bond that summer!

In the fall of 2024, we tragically lost Cannon in an accident. And while Cannon is no longer physically here with us, his legacy lives on through memories, values and actions!

Cannon’s mom, Chrissy Wheeler made these special bracelets for Rowan and Lane in memory of Cannon and the entire Wheeler family would like to wish all of the Thomas County 4-H Shotgun Team members the very best of luck tomorrow at District Qualifications!
