I completely forgot to take pictures tonight! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Our scouts are working hard learning camping skills. Tonight they practiced setting up and taking down a tent. When setting a tent, it’s important to make sure your rain fly is properly tied down. So, we practiced tying knots 🪢correctly, too.

The Bowline Knot makes a reasonably secure loop in the end of a piece of rope. It has many uses such as to fasten a mooring line to a ring or a post.

We finally got to go fishing! Tonight was more about learning and experimenting. Even though none of the scouts caught a fish, everyone had a great time!

Tonight, our scouts had to “Catch a Snapper.” They were challenged to create a pole that would allow them to reach across the “river” to catch a “Snapper”(a.k.a., mouse trap). This challenge had them learning some basic lashing techniques and practicing team work. I wish I could show you their real smiles instead of these stickers, but safety first! Boys ages 11-17 are invited to participate. DM us for more information!

Our little troop is growing! Tonight, Scoutmaster Brandon demonstrated how to tie an improved clinch knot for fishing. Our boys practiced tying hooks onto lines and baiting a hook. We’ll be getting those hooks wet when we go fishing in a couple of weeks! It’s not too late to join us! Troop 134 is for boys ages 11-17.

Tonight, our scouts are going to learn some basic fishing skills to prepare for an upcoming fishing trip. If you have boys ages 11 - 17 that might be interested in joining scouts, we would love to share more information with you!

Our scouts have been having fun learning skills like knot tying, setting up and taking down a tent, knife and woods tools safety, and Dutch oven cooking. Come see what scouting is all about at our Open House! Start a fire, and cook in a dutch oven over hot coals and check out some other "scout skills". August 23rd, 5:00 p.m. at Thomaston First Presbyterian Church. This event is for boys ages 11- 17.
