John Raymond Angevine, 84, of Warren, CT, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, surrounded by family and close friends.
John is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his two sons, Timothy Angevine and his wife, Carla of Warren, CT, and Scot Angevine and his wife, Jamie of New Milford, CT; his daughter, Lisa Bergs and her husband, Ansis of Torrington, CT; along with his granddaughter, Haley Whipple and her husband, Rob, of Litchfield, CT, grandson, Jordan Bergs of Torrington, CT, and their sweet yellow lab Annie.
He was born January 17, 1940 in Torrington, CT to the late George and Beatrice Angevine. He graduated from Wamogo High School, Litchfield, CT and the University of Connecticut with a degree in Agricultural Engineering.
He married his lifelong love, Kathleen, in Torrington, CT on May 6, 1967. They spent 57 years raising a family and building a wonderful life together.
The family farm, established in 1868, was a source of dedication and pride, and he loved seeing it grow along with his family. As a 4th generation farmer, John was always optimistic of the future of the farm. Over the years, it has transitioned from poultry and eggs to Christmas trees and pumpkins, and John and his family have been up to the challenge.
One of his other favorite places was New Smyrna Beach, Florida. John and his family created many special memories at their “Beach House.” One of his favorite activities was relaxing on the balcony with his wife, overlooking the ocean.
Another love of his life was theater pipe organs. Along with friends he installed a Robert Morton, 3 manual, 10 rank, theater pipe organ in the barn adjacent to the homestead. Every holiday season, John entertained tree customers with Christmas music. People delighted to hear the jingle bells ring out, an addition that he was excited to share. In the evening, he enjoyed playing the organ just for the family and often had the company of his cat, Max, who sat up alongside him on the bench.
There were many organizations that John was proud to be a part of, including the Warren Volunteer Fire Company, Warren Congregational Church, CT Valley Theater Organ Society, the CT Farm Bureau, and CT Christmas Tree Growers Association. He was also a member of the Grange, Region 6 CT Board of Education, and served many years as an assessor for the Town of Warren.
John loved to spend time with family and friends, while travelling, water skiing, or attending theater organ concerts. He was also appreciated for the countless volunteer hours he gave related to the installation, maintenance, and care for the theater organ at the Thomaston Opera House which is now enjoyed by thousands annually while attending performances at Landmark Community Theater. People would describe him as someone ready to give a word of advice or a helping hand, as well as intelligent, kind, hard-working, resilient, and a “trooper” right to the end.
The Angevine family would like to thank Fran, his nurse of 4 years, and the incredible staff at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital who provided him exceptional compassion and care. In addition, they appreciate the love and devotion of lifelong friends and farm helpers who have always been there for him.
He will be remembered for preserving the legacy of family, farm, and community.
