North Fork Watershed Project

North Fork Watershed Project Our office is located on the second floor of the Buxton Landstreet Building, above Buxton Landstreet Galleries and Studios. Please stop by and visit!

The North Fork Watershed Project, established in August of 2002, is committed to working with the community to find creative solutions to this problem. Solutions to the water pollution will take into account the rich cultural resources in the watershed. The area boomed in the early part of the 1900’s with the coal mining and timber industries. These industries are gone leaving these adverse enviro

nmental impacts as well as many historical landmarks. Some of the watershed project’s goals include coordinating historical and educational projects and working with state and federal agencies to improve water quality in the North Fork and the amount of life the river can sustain. The North Fork Watershed Project was created by Judy Rodd, executive director for Friends of Blackwater Canyon to clean up the acid mine drainage in the North Fork of Blackwater River.

Only three more days to take action!
https://saveblackwater.org/take-action/keystone-npdes-permit-petition/

Join us in requesting a public hearing for this permit and demanding that the WV DEP Division of Mining and Reclamation treat Beaver Creek as a trout stream before issuing a permit for the Keystone Surface Mining site to discharge water into the Watershed. This NPDES permit should raise discharge standards to that of a trout stream. Add your name to this petition to help advocate for clean water in the Blackwater Watershed!

Meet our second Endangered Species Art Contest judge- "Ginny" the WV Northern Flying Squirrel!

Ginny loves to glide up to 25 meters across old growth forests, eat truffles found underground, and is very rare, so her habitat must be protected!

Check out how to enter the contest below:

Your comments and signatures (we are at almost 1,700 now!) on FOB’s injection well petition that accompanied our comments objecting to this waste disposal have led to a public hearing regarding this permit renewal.

DATE+TIME:
March 5th @ 5pm:
5-6 PM- document review and Q/A with DEP personnel
6-8 PM- public hearing

LOCATION:
Tucker County Board of Education Auxiliary Gym
100 Education Lane, Parsons, WV 26287

-----
If you can’t attend this public hearing, sign our petition to still let your voice be heard! Pillar Energy wants a permit to inject 590 barrels a day of fluid produced from gas wells into an “injection well”. This toxic mixture of chemicals could leak into groundwater or Horseshoe Run and the Cheat River, undermining millions of dollars of restoration work to make the river healthy.
