🚩 We showed up. We spoke out. We said GO NORTH.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today at the Kerens Exit ribbon-cutting. Our supporters were there to highlight the benefits of the Go North Route and encourage leaders to see firsthand what the Blackwater area has to offer-and more importantly, why it should be protected.

Today, Governor Morrisey received our invitation to tour the northern route, and the conversation continues. We're grateful to everyone who came out and made their voices heard!

Happy West Virginia Day! 💛💙

On June 20, 1863, West Virginia became the 35th state in the Union, born out of a spirit of independence, resilience, and a deep connection to the mountains we call home.

We celebrate West Virginia not only for its breathtaking landscapes, but also for the people, wildlife, history, and traditions that make our state so special. From protecting the Blackwater River watershed and the Blackwater Canyon to preserving Tucker County's rich heritage and sharing the stories of those who came before us, our work is rooted in a love for wild and wonderful West Virginia.

Today, we honor the beauty, history, and communities that have shaped our state for 163 years—and recommit ourselves to ensuring these treasures endure for generations to come.

Happy Birthday, West Virginia!

Happy Juneteenth!

Today, we commemorate June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas, marking a powerful milestone in the ongoing pursuit of freedom and equality.

Here in West Virginia, our history is deeply intertwined with stories of perseverance, justice, and the people who helped shape our communities. Through projects like the Tucker County Heritage Project and our work highlighting the legacy of J.R. Clifford and other important voices from our region, Friends of Blackwater is committed to preserving and sharing the stories that connect us all.

Juneteenth reminds us that understanding and honoring our shared history is an essential part of building stronger communities and protecting the places we call home.

Today, we celebrate freedom, reflect on the past, and look toward a more just and inclusive future. ❤️🖤💚

🚧 What if we told you the solution is just six miles away?

No, really.

More than 3,000 people have already spoken up for the Blackwater Canyon, and we're asking Governor Morrisey to do one simple thing: Go North.

Watch the video, have a laugh, and then take a minute to make your voice heard. By shifting Corridor H just six miles north, we can complete the highway while protecting the Canyon, our waters, and the outdoor economy that makes this place so special.
