Today, we recognize Juneteenth Freedom Day, commemorating June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Juneteenth is a time to reflect on history, honor resilience, and celebrate the strength, culture, and contributions of Black communities. It is also an opportunity to recognize the importance of freedom, dignity, and belonging for all people.
As we celebrate today, we honor those who came before us and the communities that continue to shape a more inclusive future.
