WHY IS THE ONE THING YOU CAN'T HAVE ALWAYS FRONT AND CENTER?

If we're honest, we'd have designed the garden differently. Take that tree and tuck it in a back corner, somewhere hard to see, somewhere nobody walks by, and somewhere it's barely a temptation at all.

God did the opposite. He planted it right in the center, in the middle of everything beautiful He had just given them.

Picture the back corner version for a second. The day Adam and Eve finally walk past it, it's just them and the one thing they can't have. Nothing else is in view.

Now picture the center. They step back, they look at the tree they're not supposed to eat from, and standing behind it is every good thing He gave them.

There's no angle where that changes. Walk around to the other side, look again, and the backdrop is still all the goodness, all the beauty, and every tree they're free to eat from. He never wanted them isolated with the thing they weren't supposed to touch.

Our lives aren't so different. The places people have let us down, the places we've let ourselves down, and the moments we'd rather not revisit tend to get stared at alone.

Pause on one of those moments and open your eyes wider. What's surrounding the temptation, and surrounding the expectation we're supposed to live into, is the goodness and glory of God.

So, why put it in the middle of the beauty He's given us? Because He wants us to see both at once, and when we finally do, His goodness overwhelms the thing we're not supposed to do.

This Sunday, April 19 at 6:30 PM, we will gather for our very first Remember Your Baptism service at Covenant. We are so excited that several people have already signed up to reaffirm their baptism, and others will be baptized for the very first time—what a beautiful and meaningful evening this will be!

As the hands and feet of Christ, we have the opportunity to surround these individuals with love, encouragement, and support. We also invite everyone to come and be part of this special night of worship and celebration.
