North Wasco has more director-level positions than most districts our size — 9 directors for 2,847 students.
Comparable Oregon districts with similar enrollment average 4–6.
While our central office grows, classrooms continue to operate without the support, staffing, and stability our students deserve.
Teachers are asking to feel prioritized.
We want resources flowing directly to kids, not more layers of administration.
It’s time to make our students and staff the center of every decision.

“I urge the district to make choices that truly prioritize student-facing positions because when we invest in the people who work directly with students, we invest in our students themselves. Our students deserve teachers and staff who have the time, resources, and support to do their best work, not exhausted professionals stretched thin by too many initiatives and too few hands.” -D21EA President

Here’s the math:
5 teacher positions not replaced
5 student-support roles not replaced
1 central office position not replaced
And now?
Students are asking where their teachers went.
Teachers are leaving because they can’t afford to stay.
When cuts hit classrooms 10× harder than central office, it’s clear who is not being prioritized.
Our students deserve better.

Aquí están las cifras:
5 puestos docentes no cubiertos
5 puestos de apoyo estudiantil no cubiertos
1 puesto administrativo no cubierto
¿Y ahora?
Nuestros estudiantes merecen algo me

When we invest in the people who work directly with students, we invest in our kids’ success.
Districts across Oregon are finding creative ways to prioritize student-facing staff—through competitive pay, support, and respect for their work because keeping great educators in our classrooms means stronger schools and brighter futures.
Let’s make sure The Dalles is a district that leads with students first.

Every student deserves consistent, caring adults in their school life. That’s why competitive wages for student-facing staff aren’t just about pay—they’re about stability, quality, and care.
Districts around Oregon are finding ways to make this a priority. Is The Dalles doing all it can to keep talented staff here, supporting the students who need them most?
