SNAP is a lifeline for millions of people facing food insecurity. But as benefits are reduced and food costs continue to rise, food pantries across Oregon are struggling to keep up with growing demand.

Here in The Gorge, pantries are seeing firsthand how SNAP cuts are affecting families:

“Last week they said one of their clients had their SNAP benefits cut from $150 a month to $23 a month, and are really thankful that they have the pantries, but also it's just not quite enough.” said Leah Hall, Philanthropy Manager.

Food pantries are an essential emergency resource, but they were never designed to replace programs like SNAP. In fact, for every one meal food banks provide, SNAP provides nine.

Read the full story from Public News Service, Facing hunger in Oregon, Part 4: Pantries call for more support, to learn more about how SNAP changes are affecting Oregon communities and the growing pressure on food pantries.

Food pantries across Oregon say rising food costs coupled with cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and other programs have left them struggling to keep up with growing demand.According

Packed warehouse. Full hearts. So much hope for our Gorge community. 🥣

Last night's Empty Bowls was everything we hoped for — the Gorge showed up in a big way for hunger relief, and we are tired in the best possible way.

To everyone who came, bid, donated, and cheered each other on: thank you. Every bid placed, every dollar given, every hour volunteered goes directly toward making sure our neighbors across Wasco, Sherman and Hood River counties have enough to eat.

This is what community looks like. We couldn't do this without you. 💛
