CITY COUNCIL REDISTRICTING

The Colony City Council has begun the process of re-drawing the single-member City Council district maps due to population growth in certain areas of the city. The districts are represented as Place 3, Place 4, Place 5 and Place 6.

Based on the 2010 Census data, a redistricting committee made up of 2 council members, city staff and residents, developed sample maps, 3 of which were selected by the City Council to consider. The City Council would now like to receive comments from residents of the city regarding these 3 maps.

On Monday, April 1st, at 7 p.m. residents will have an opportunity to view and comment on the maps under consideration. The location for this public forum is the Crescent Room of Fairfield Inn & Suites, 5909 Stone Creek Drive.

Residents city-wide are invited to attend and are encouraged to voice their opinions or concerns.

The City Council plans to consider adopting one of the proposed maps in the near future. Along with the criteria established for the process of creating new district lines, the City Council will consider the input received from the public to help determine the map best suited for the city.

Merchants News 8 discloses the 10-football-field-sized Furniture store, expected to bring 8M visitors to The Colony broke ground yesterday 9/25 & will open doors in 2015. 2500 new jobs predicted!! Construction began Tuesday morning on a store billed to be an enormous economic boom for The Colony and Denton County.
