I’m looking for a volunteer that can help stain a new gate for a widow here in The Colony. She has the stain but needs help having the work done. It shouldn’t take more than an hour or so.
Please contact me if you are willing and able to help.
Thank you
Best to call me at (214) 808-7070 or text me.
Thank you

Update on yard whose homeowner needs 10-12 helping hands. I’ve included some pictures and have talked to the city image department to request assistance getting a dumpster for the greens. We are looking at a possible Saturday workday. There are 4 possibly 5 volunteers but we need more to get the work done. However, the volunteers we have could do a work of good. If you are available this Saturday, June 8th, please let me know ASAP. The homeowner is helping too so this needs to be coordinated with her.
Text me at (214) 808-7070 if you can help.

Also, if you or you know someone that could help a homeowner on a tight fixed income, she sent ya the following and we would like to see if we can help get out. Let me know if you can help:
“I still have that small leak from my other toilet. I think it's coming from the base. The chalking around the base is loose. It's hard to tell for sure, I can't get on my knees to check.”

Thanks everyone.

Would anyone be up for helping this homeowner just get caught up? I think a one day, maybe two on a weekend before it gets too hot would be a tremendous help for her. Please let me know.
Her is her post. She is here in The Colony:
I am in need of landscaping help. I'm completely overwhelmed with what I have. I mow myself. I just have too many trees and I can't keep up with leaves. My chainsaw stopped working and I want to cut down some small ones. I'm willing to help, I just can't keep doing it by myself. This would also be projects that need to be spread out over time due to funds. My house was the one that caught fire earlier this year and I was displaced for almost two months and I just can't seem to catch up. Thanks for any suggestions. — looking for recommendations.

Yes, it’s been a while since we have posted and hope this finds all doing well and about ready for Christmas. We are reaching out to everyone as there is a need for volunteers for Saturday, December 22nd to help move a young couple from the girls parents home here in The Colony to the Estancia Apartments. Life happens and they need help. She is 31 weeks pregnant.

Please consider 1-2 hours out of your day to help show this couple our kindness. Send me a pm for details.

I have not posted in quite some time but with a sad heart I felt the urge to share this and ask for an abundance of prayers.
Our very first project was for a dear sweet elderly lady, Mary Rish, whose home was in a dangerous state and the City of The Colony was close to having her home condemned because of the garage as it was close to caving in.

It was an urgent situation and in less than two weeks we organized a clean up and clean out of the garage in the event it would be taken down. We had no idea of the amount of work that was needed that day but we did it. This was all back in 2011 and it was hotter than heck!

Following the work and numerous trips to the city dump we were all treated to a wonderful BBQ at the home of the Stiefer’s and food provided by Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Without knowing all the details and exactly when, she signed the deed over to someone she was in an on/off relationship with for the past 40 years. He was going to get a loan to help fix up the home but he told her the home needed to be in his name.

A few months ago he informed her she was going to have to move out or be evicted. This had been her home for almost 50 years and she lives on a very small income. She and the friend have gone back and forth but this week they had a court hearing here in The City. This guy didn’t want to go in front of the judge and said they could work this out.

Today I received a text from the woman’s granddaughter letting me know that it turns out the guy sold the home to an investor. They contacted her this morning to advise her she was supposed to be out of the house.

At this time she has no place to go and very limited funds. The guy did give Mary some money.

The needs are: boxes for her to move her items in and prayers for doors to be opened for a safe and clean place for her to move to.
If you have boxes, I can pick them up this weekend and deliver them to Mary Rish or I can provide her address and you can deliver them to her.

You can scroll through some of the pictures on this page to see some that were taken that day.

Thank you to everyone.

Getting active again and we need some volunteers. I am needing 3-4 volunteers to help with the mowing and edging of a yard in The Colony this summer. We have been doing this particular yard for three years now and I would like to give those guys a break and find a few more new volunteers. It would require each volunteer to do the yard twice this summer. Just twice!

I also need two volunteers to help a homeowner repair his fence. We are looking at about 12 feet. The homeowner will provide the materials but he just needs help with the labor. He reached out to the city image department and they contacted us to see if we could help.

Please let me know if you can help with either one of these projects.
Email me at [email protected] or send me a pm or call me at 214-808-7070.
Thanks all!

Yesterday, July 30th, 2016- amazing day helping a family in The Colony. The project started at 7:30am and the last volunteers left at 2:30p. This was done by volunteers from Al's Hugs and Hammers, The City of The Colony employees, Home Depot of The Colony associates, 3 groups of The Colony Firefighters and volunteers from The City of The Colony Volunteer Assistance Program. Before and After pictures will be loaded once I get them from 2 city employees that took pictures. I need to mention it was 99 degrees while everyone worked and this is not "dry" heat but "sweltering" heat.
Love our city!

Approximately 40 volunteers for this coming Saturday. WOW! The homeowners will be loved on by these volunteers and to know that both volunteers and homeowners will be blessed by this event. I know that Al Gober will be overlooking the event and making sure we are doing things right! He truly led by example! Miss that guy but this group will honor his legacy. Pictures of the event to follow the event.

July 30th work day is a GO! 730am is the start time. We have 8 volunteers from Home Depot. We need 12 more volunteers and need those volunteers to be able to carry and toss items into a dumpster, some with chainsaws. Please let me know if you are able to committ as we need a count by next Tuesday at the latest to know what we can and can not do based on the help of volunteers. Email me at [email protected], [email protected] or text me at 214-808-7070. We are going to plan on this being a one day project. If there are any groups out there that would like to make supply lunch and or drinks, this would be awesome too.
