🌏 This month, CCIOC proudly recognizes Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, honoring the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of AAPI communities across our nation.
The strength of the United States is built on the diversity of its people — and AAPI communities represent a vibrant mosaic of more than 50 ethnic groups and over 100 languages, each adding to the fabric of our shared experience.

We celebrate the many generations of AAPI individuals and families whose contributions continue to enrich our communities through innovation, culture, and collaboration. At CCIOC, we remain committed to uplifting and supporting all communities as we work together to build a stronger, more inclusive future. 💙

April is National Financial Literacy Month, and CCIOC is proud to remind our community that financial knowledge is essential at every stage of life.

From learning how to budget and save, to managing debt, planning for retirement, and building long‑term security — financial literacy looks different for each generation, but the goal remains the same: making informed, confident decisions about our future.

At CCIOC, we believe no one has to navigate this journey alone. By learning together, sharing knowledge, and supporting one another, we can build stronger families and a more financially secure community. 💙

Let’s use this month as an opportunity to start the conversation, build good habits, and invest in our future — together.

💙 April is Autism Acceptance Month, and CCIOC joins communities across the country in raising awareness, understanding, and respect for individuals and families impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Autism is a lifelong neurological and developmental condition that affects how people communicate, interact, learn, and experience the world around them. With diagnoses continuing to rise, more children, adults, and families in our community are navigating sensory sensitivities, communication challenges, and social differences — all of which exist across a wide and diverse spectrum.

This month is not only about awareness, but about acceptance, inclusion, and compassion. We encourage our community to learn more, listen with empathy, and support families affected by autism through kindness, advocacy, and understanding.

Together, we can help create a more inclusive Co‑op City where every individual is valued and supported. 💙

✨ Women’s History Month Spotlight ✨
This month, CCIOC proudly honors Claire Babineaux‑Fontenot, a visionary leader whose compassion and commitment to service have transformed the fight against hunger nationwide.

As the former CEO of Feeding America (2018–2026), Claire helped build the nation’s largest hunger‑relief organization, strengthening a powerful network of food banks, pantries, and meal programs that serve millions of families across the country. Her collaborative approach — uniting corporations, government partners, and grassroots organizations — has left an impact felt both nationally and internationally.

Her leadership continues to inspire organizations like ours. Over the past three years, CCIOC has seen firsthand the rising need for food assistance in the Greater Co‑op City community. Following the example set by leaders like Claire, we launched our Food Giveaway Ministry, held every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month, to support our neighbors facing food insecurity.

As we celebrate Claire’s legacy, we also renew our commitment to serving YOU — our children, our seniors, and our families. If you’d like to help us expand this vital work, we welcome donations of fresh produce, canned goods, volunteers, or monetary gifts (Zelle: [email protected]).

Together, we can strengthen our community and uplift those who need it most. 💙

⭐ Women's History Month Spotlight: Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson

This Women’s History Month, CCIOC proudly honors Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson — a trailblazer whose achievements continue to inspire generations across our community.

As the first African American woman and only the sixth woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court, Justice Jackson has paved the way for young women and girls everywhere. Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Miami, she graduated from Harvard University, where she served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review.

Before joining the Supreme Court, Justice Jackson made history as the first former federal public defender to sit on the nation’s highest court — a powerful reminder of her lifelong commitment to fairness, justice, and service. She is also an author, sharing her personal journey in her 2024 book, Lovely One.

Justice Jackson is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., continuing a legacy of scholarship, service, and sisterhood.

We celebrate her brilliance, her courage, and the doors she continues to open for future generations. 🌟💜

CCIOC hereby proclaims that Black History is an integral part of U.S. History. In celebration of Black History Month, we would like to shine a spotlight on a few Black trailblazers who exemplified resilience resulting in excellence and a higher quality of life for all Americans;

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams was one of the first Black-American surgeons. He founded Provident Hospital & Training School in 1891 which was the first nonsegregated hospital training Black doctors and nurses. He made history on July 10, 1893 when he performed the first successful open heart surgery.

Ida B. Wells a 21 year old teacher who was a ticket holding passenger on a Tennessee train on May 4, 1884 when she was forced to exit refusing to leave a first class car reserved for White passengers. She sued the railroad and was awarded $500. This event inspired her to become a journalist and sociologist fighting against prejudice and violence promoting equality for Afro-Americans. She later co-founded the NAACP.

John Standard was an inventor born in Newark who was responsible for the improvements to kitchen appliances such as refrigerators and gas stoves. Standard was granted a patent in June 14, 1891 for his refrigeration ice chamber design which led to the separate units of the freezer and refrigerator. His innovations to modernize and improve the gas/oil stovetop to a space saving design in October 1889 was awarded another U.S. Patent. He is a noteworthy inventor for his life enhancing inventions as well as his fight for Black and women’s rights to own intellectual property.

Happy Black History Month one and all!!

Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

At CCIOC, we are inspired by his vision of justice, unity, and service to others. Dr. King reminded us that “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”

On this day, and every day, we recommit to building stronger communities, uplifting one another, and leading with compassion, purpose, and hope.
