Hydrant Education Action Team - HEAT The Hydrant Education Action Team (HEAT) was created by Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)

The Hydrant Education Action Team (HEAT) was created by DEP to educate community residents and stakeholders about the problems surrounding the illegal use of fire hydrants. HEAT provides opportunities for young adults in Upper Manhattan and the South Bronx to work within their communities and share information about the dangers of illegal fire hydrant use.The HEAT teams educate and service, the Co

mmunity Boards (CB) 4 and 5 in the Bronx and CB 12 in Manhattan. We understand that an illegally opened fire hydrant could pump out as much as 1,000 gallons of water per minute, equal to running 400 showers at the same time. We are dedicated and proud to promote the use of spray caps as a safe and environmentally effective solution, and we urge New Yorkers to
