UpBeat NYC provides free instrumental music instruction to children and youth in the South Bronx. Our mission is to build equity, opportunity, and community through music education and ensemble performance and to bring about positive change in the lives of our participants.

🤗 Please join us for this family-friendly 🎈community concert featuring UpBeat students of all ages performing 🎶exciting music🎵 from the South Bronx and around the world 🌍 with special selections 💖celebrating Juneteenth! 💖

🤩 The program will include beautiful music by Thelonious Monk, Joseph Bologne, Ron Carter and J. Rosamund Johnson as well as the premier performance of a very special original composition by UpBeat’s very own principal cellist and composer, Charlie Lopez! 🤩

 Also featured will be Leonard Bernstein’s 💃🏿Mambo! 💃🏿and a program-wide orchestra finale with our newly formed children’s choir! 🎤

We are still feeling the glow 🥰 of our recent visit from Mr. and Mrs. Carter, Judy Epstein .epstein and David Gage at 💗 It was a magical afternoon visiting classes, rehearsals and UpBeat’s luthier workshop - Maestro even joined in to play with the jazz band and orchestra 😎 and provided a masterclass for the cellists and bassists 🤩

Mr. Carter generously shared his stories of growing up as a young musician - encouraging and inspiring words that are still resonating with all of us.

☀️Be sure to swipe to the last slide and partake in a little of the Maestro’s impromptu “Sunshine” ☀️ he shared with us at the end of the day! 💞
