HOW MANY MORE MUST WE LOSE TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

Valerie Solis — 53 years old (2018)

Belkis Lopez — 2021

Denise Caamano — 24 years old (2022)

Lisette Gomez — 38 years old (2023)

Zariah Hayes — 23 years old (2023)

Saida Bonilla — 40 years old (2024)

Nathaly Ramirez — 23 years old (2026)

Seven names. Seven lives. Seven families forever changed.

And these are only some of the women whose lives have been taken by domestic violence in the Bronx.

HOW MANY MORE MUST WE LOSE?

How many more mothers must leave children behind?

How many more daughters, sisters, friends, and loved ones must be mourned?

How many more warning signs must be overlooked before meaningful intervention takes place?

Did these women reach out for help? Were their cries heard? What protection was available? What opportunities for intervention may have been missed?

These are questions that demand answers, accountability, and meaningful action.

We cannot continue documenting tragedies without investing in prevention.

At Haven of Hope Foundation Inc., we believe that domestic violence prevention must begin before another life is lost.

Through education, survivor advocacy, healthy relationship programs, trauma-informed support, and community engagement, we remain committed to breaking cycles of violence.

Their names are not just headlines. Their lives mattered. Their stories matter.

Today, we say their names.

Tomorrow, we must continue the work of protecting those who are still here.

That’s the question that needs to be asked: Did Nathaly Ramirez reach out for help before she was killed?

A vigil, memorial, or public statement after a woman’s death may honor her memory, but it cannot replace intervention while she is alive.

For Haven of Hope, the important questions are whether Nathaly reported abuse, whether anyone recognized the danger she faced, what assistance was offered, and whether protective measures were available.

We also need to distinguish between a woman seeking help and the systems around her responding effectively. A survivor should never be blamed for another person’s violence.

What the reporting establishes

There were documented warning signs months before Nathaly’s death.

* January 2026: Police reportedly arrested Angel Carrasco for allegedly assaulting Nathaly.
* Three days later: He was arrested again following another incident involving her.
* Before her death: A neighbor recalled hearing Nathaly tell someone that she wanted to get away from him and could not endure the situation anymore.

Angel Carrasco seemingly smiled for the cameras during a perp walk on Thursday afternoon.

💜 HER NAME WAS NATHALY RAMIREZ. SHE WAS ONLY 23 YEARS OLD.

Another mother has lost her life. Another child must grow up without her mother. Another family is left grieving.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Haven of Hope Foundation Inc. asks a question that cannot continue to go unanswered:

How many warning signs must be overlooked before prevention becomes a priority?

Domestic violence awareness must lead to intervention, accountability, education, and meaningful protection for women and children.

We cannot continue waiting until another life is lost to begin having these conversations.

Nathaly deserved to live. Her daughter deserved to grow up with her mother.

💜 Awareness Without Action Is Not Enough.

How many more mothers must lose their lives? How many more children must experience unimaginable trauma before we recognize that domestic violence requires more than a telephone number or an annual awareness campaign?

At Haven of Hope Foundation Inc., we believe prevention begins with education, recognizing warning signs, breaking generational patterns of abuse, strengthening families, and creating safe spaces where survivors can be heard without judgment.

Through The Purple Door: The Pathway to Healing, we are committed to helping women recognize unhealthy relationships, reclaim their voices, and move toward healing and empowerment.

Nathaly Ramirez deserved the opportunity to live, raise her daughter, and build her future.

We cannot change what happened to Nathaly, but we can work to prevent another family from experiencing the same tragedy.

Since 2010, our mission has been to empower survivors, strengthen families, educate our communities, and create pathways toward healing, hope, and new beginnings.

Through The Purple Door: The Pathway to Healing and our community-based programs, we are working to expand prevention education, survivor advocacy, youth empowerment, healthy relationships, and essential support services.
