Clerical Asst. Jobs With State Courts Start at $39,905

Positions Throughout State; Tests in July and August; $30 Examination Fee; Apply by July 2

The New York State Unified Court System will hold tests for clerical-assistant positions throughout the state starting July 16 and ending Aug. 18. The salary is $39,905.

The deadline to file an online application for the exam is July 2. The fee is $30.

The Work

Clerical Assistants work on a variety of office-support and clerical tasks such as checking, sorting, filing, scanning and retrieving court papers; keyboarding and data-entering information; and responding to public inquiries.

Clerical Assistants may work at public counters as information clerks, in courts of every jurisdiction as part clerks in those parts that operate on less than a full-time basis, and perform other related duties. Clerical Assistants are located in courts of every jurisdiction, County Clerks' and Commissioners of Jurors' Offices, law libraries and administrative offices and auxiliary agencies throughout the Unified Court System.
Applicants will be emailed an examination self-scheduling link about July 9.

The deadline to self-schedule the examination will be Aug. 9. Scheduling will be on a first-come, first-served basis, although dates times and test centers are not guaranteed.

Subject of Examination

The examination will consist of multiple-choice questions and will assess clerical checking; coding and decoding; filing; reading, understanding and interpreting written material; number facility; preparing written material; applying facts and information to given situations; and court record-keeping.
The questions will assess applicants’ ability to read, combine and manipulate written information organized from several sources. Applicants will be presented with different types of tables, which contain names, numbers, codes and other information, and must combine and reorganize the information to answer specific questions.

The passing mark is 70.
