🇺🇸 Understanding the “One Big Beautiful Bill”: A Comprehensive Look at Its Impact on the Yemeni American Community

A major piece of legislation—referred to as the “One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBBA)”—has entered the spotlight in American politics. This sweeping reform bill promises significant changes to taxes, healthcare, immigration, and social programs. While some praise it for economic stimulation, it presents serious implications that the Yemeni American community must prepare for.

🔹 Key Impacts on Our Community Include:

1. Tax and Economic Reforms
• Extension of 2017 tax cuts and expanded child tax credit
• New deductions for tips and overtime
• Benefits may be limited to those with Social Security numbers, affecting mixed-status families
• Small business tax deductions made permanent—an opportunity for Yemeni American entrepreneurs

2. Healthcare & Safety Net Cuts
• Major reductions to Medicaid could risk coverage for thousands
• Stricter eligibility & new out-of-pocket costs
• New SNAP (food stamps) work requirements may increase food insecurity

3. Immigration Enforcement Boost
• Increased ICE funding and faster deportations
• Higher fees for immigration applications
• IRS-ICE data sharing raises concerns for mixed-status households

أقر الكونغرس مؤخرًا مشروع قانون شامل يُعرف باسم “مشروع القانون الكبير والجميل” (OBBBA)، ويتضمن تغييرات كبيرة في نظام الضرائب، والرعاية الصحية، والهجرة، والبرامج الاجتماعية. وبينما يشيد به البعض لتحفيزه الاقتصادي، فإن له آثارًا عميقة تستوجب انتباه الجالية اليمنية الأمريكية.

🔹 أبرز النقاط التي تمس مجتمعنا:

1. إصلاحات اقتصادية وضريبية

2. تخفيضات في الرعاية الصحية والبرامج الاجتماعية

• شروط أهلية صارمة وزيادة التكاليف على الأسر ذات الدخل المحدود

The Alliance of Yemeni Americans (AYA) extends heartfelt congratulations to our neighbors and friends on this meaningful Juneteenth celebration in the Bronx.

Today’s event was more than just a gathering — it was a powerful reflection of freedom, resilience, and the strength of community. We are proud to have stood beside so many diverse voices in celebration of this historic day.

To everyone who showed up — families, performers, organizers, and local leaders — thank you for your presence and for helping make this day truly special.

A special thank you to Bronx Community Board 11, the team at Brady Court, and all the volunteers and partners who made this event a success. Also, thanks to CB11’s Staceyann Deleon for her continued dedication, and to AYA’s own Zaid Nagi, whose passion and commitment helped bring this vision to life.
