It is always a pleasure to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month with the community leaders who are doing this work alongside . The work is challenging, particularly in this moment, and finding these moments to celebrate and connect with leaders across the movement is so meaningful. Thank you to Governor Kathy Hochul () for bringing together AAPI community leaders from across NY state in Albany at the Governorโ€™s annual AAPI reception!

Happy Bangladesh Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฉ It was beautiful to see the capitol building filled with people in red and green for Bangladesh Day in Albany earlier this week. We celebrated with food, music, and dance and got to witness a very special moment in the NY State Senate where a resolution was passed recognizing March 26th in New York State as Bangladesh Independence Day. Many thanks to for organzing and for inviting to be a part of it.

It was a beautiful day to be in community celebrating Holi with music, dance, colors, & community resources. Holi ushers in Spring while celebrating the triumph of good over evil. In this moment, more than ever, it was incredible to see people of all different backgrounds coming together highlighting how our diverse communities are what truly make New York City special.

On the eve of Ramadan joined and along with so many incredible community leaders for a conversation about confronting anti-Muslim hate and food insecurity in our communities. It continues to be a much needed conversation as we see anti-Muslim hate spouted by people in positions of power emboldening others to act on their hate. Rhetoric moves to action and our communities deserve to live in safety and dignity.

Sapnaโ€™s Executive Director Diya Basu-Sen uplifted the critical need for better access to halal food for survivors in the shelter system and as well as the need to address anti-Muslim hate that is woven into the very institutions that are meant to serve our communities. This is the work that Sapna NYc has committed to doing - addressing hate in all the ways it shows up in our communities - through workshops, case management, mental health counseling, and advocating for policy change.

We thank Speaker Menin and CM Shahana Hanif for convening this meeting and starting this important dialogue. We hope that we can continue to work with to ensure that our Muslim communities have the policies and services needed to truly feel the sense of belonging and support in NYC that they deserve.
