Happy Puerto Rican Day đ”đ·
In honor of this day, En Foco is looking into the archives to share with you all. Since 1998, Enid Alvarez has been photographing Puerto Rico as a way of reconnecting with culture, memory, and a sense of home. What began as a personal search has become an invitation for others to pause, reflect and rediscover the places and moments that shape who they are.
These images remind us that beauty isnât found in perfection. The cracks, imperfections, and quiet details we often overlook are what make a placeâand a lifeâfeel real.
Today, weâre celebrating Puerto Rican heritage, resilience, and the powerful connections between people, place, and memory. Through photography, we are reminded that sometimes looking back helps us better understand where we come from and where weâre going.
What memories come to mind when you think of home?
