On Friday, September 25th, National Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims, S.A.V.E. honored the lives of those lost to violence with a walk from The Bronx to Harlem.

On this day, we honored the children and young people taken from us far too soon, including those tragically lost to gun violence. We came together to keep their memories alive, stand united against violence, and work toward building safer, more peaceful communities.

We walked in memory of Angellyh Yambo, Kyhara Tay, Evette Jeffries, Jacob Freytes, Lloyd Morgan, Troynisha Harris, Brandon Hendricks, and the many other innocent lives taken by violence.

The walk was organized by Harlem Mothers and Fathers S.A.V.E., co-founded by Jackie Rowe-Adams, who tragically lost two of her sons to gun violence, and It’s All About The Kids, led by retired NYPD Assistant Commissioner and Lieutenant Kevin O’Connor.

They were children and young people with dreams, hopes, and futures. Their lives mattered. Their stories matter. And we will continue to keep their memories alive.

The Annual Brides March Against Domestic Violence

The Gladys Ricart Family and Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk/Brides’ March honors the life and memory of Gladys Ricart, a young woman from Washington Heights who was tragically murdered by her abusive former boyfriend on September 26th, 1999 - the day she was to marry her fiancé.

The March raises awareness about domestic violence while honoring victims, survivors, and families whose lives have been impacted by violence.

Every September 26th, rain or shine, thousands of women, men, and youth, including families affected by domestic violence, elected officials, civic leaders, clergy, students, advocates, and survivors come together in different states across the country to honor Gladys and the many lives lost to violence each year.

Help Is Available: If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, you are not alone. Support is available 24 hours a day.

On Friday, September 25th, National Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims, S.A.V.E. will honor the lives of those lost to violence with a walk from The Bronx to Harlem.

Please see the map for the walking route and approximate times. There will be a stop at 3071 Park Avenue, by the Basketball Courts.

On this day, we honor the young lives (Angellyh) taken from us far too soon, including many who were tragically lost to gun violence. We come together to keep their memories alive, stand united as a community against violence, and work toward building safer, more peaceful communities.

The walk is organized by Harlem Mothers and Fathers S.A.V.E., led by Co-Founder Jackie Rowe-Adams, who tragically lost two of her sons to gun violence, All About The Kids led by retired NYPD Assistant Commissioner and Lieutenant Kevin O’Connor, who was also one of the first responders at the scene of Angellyh’s tragic death.

The Angellyh Yambo Foundation, in partnership with RomoGIS, has completed a 10-year analysis of gun violence incidents occurring within 500 feet of schools across New York City’s five boroughs.

This project was developed to provide a clearer understanding of long-term gun violence trends and their impact on the communities where children learn, live, and grow. The findings are both eye-opening and sobering, illustrating the persistent presence of gun violence in areas surrounding our schools.

As Gun Violence Awareness Month and the school year come to a close, we are releasing this analysis to help inform our communities, foster conversations, and emphasize the need for effective prevention through education, awareness, and data-driven action. Our hope is that these findings will inspire continued collaboration to create safer environments for students, families, and neighborhoods.

The accompanying maps, covering the years 2016 through 2025, provide a visual representation of these incidents and highlight the importance of continued collaboration to create safer neighborhoods for every child and family. By making this information accessible, The Angellyh Yambo Foundation and RomoGIS hope to increase awareness, encourage community engagement, and support informed conversations and actions aimed at reducing gun violence and protecting future generations.
