What are some Garifuna traditions?
Garifuna spiritualism is creatively expressed through music, dancing and other art forms. In preparation of special gatherings with spiritual healing, drumming and dancing, a feast of seafood, meat and cassava bread is prepared. Traditional Garifuna foods are based around fish, chicken, cassava, bananas, and plantains.

OUR GOALS & OBJECTIVES
The goals and objectives of the United Garifuna Association Inc. are as follows:
(a) To preserve, protect and promote the Garifuna culture.
(b) To advocate on all issues on behalf of the Garifuna people with the government, corporations, foundations, and other institutional organizations.
(c) To formulate and implement programs that will be to the benefit of the Garifuna people so that they can improve their living conditions.
(d) To assist the members of our association, other Garifuna people in the community in time of distress.
(e) To ensure that no form of injustice is committed against the Garifuna people in the United States and elsewhere.
(f) To implement and maintain programs for our members and other Garifuna people in areas such as: sports, education, arts, crafts, drumming, dancing and many other areas that will benefit their growth and development.
(g) To train our children and youths to become leaders in our community.
(h) To maintain an ongoing relationship with Garinagu from Saint Vincent, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Belize and any other place where they are currently residing.
(i) To select members from our association living in the United States to be Delegates for the annual convention held by the United Garifuna Association Inc. annually in New York City with Delegates from elsewhere on issues affecting us.
(j) To mobilize our members when there is a crisis affecting our people living in the places stated in Article-2 (h) of these Bye- Laws.

ACTION STATEMENT
This will be accomplished by reaching out to other Garinagu, people and others who might be interested to learn about the Garifuna Culture. Educational, recreational, sporting, cultural, arts, drumming, dancing, singing, crafts, language, reading writing, sports, music and several other programs will be sponsored to our children, members and people in the community to help to make the citizens of our community’s self-reliant and independent progressive citizens in the countries where they reside. The Garifuna people have always been resilient, self-reliant independent and autonomous in the past and it is our hope that we continue to encourage our children, youths and people to maintain these positive traits.
