❤️ Safford Community Benefit BBQ – Thank You ❤️

Our hearts are full after this incredible event. The Safford community showed up in such a powerful way to support Liam Fritz and Jenessa Rodriguez, and we are truly honored to have been a part of it.

Thanks to your generosity, the BBQ was a huge success, and with the addition of a generous grant match from Nathaniel’s Childhood Cancer Foundation, we were able to make an even greater impact for these families during such a difficult time.

This is what community looks like — people coming together, showing up, and lifting one another up when it matters most. From every plate purchased to every share, donation, and helping hand behind the scenes, we are beyond grateful. ❤️

We also want to extend a huge thank you to our incredible community sponsors for their generous donations, helping ensure our local families are supported: Napa/Macks Auto, Vista Recycling, Ice King, Kemptons Chevrolet, Sun Pumps, Thriftee, Pepsi, and Vinings.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped setup, coordinate, cook and serve the delicious food. A special thank you to Officer Sherri Hill, Sgt Randy Loya and Sgt Jason Larson for their extra dedication to this event.

Nathaniel would have been 22 years old today. In memory of him I bought a Jellycat bear today called Bartholomew, which in the Bible is Nathaniel. When Nathaniel was sick, I had a dream of three angels holding signs, each with letters that spelled out Bartholomew. This bear was a special way to end his birthday.

It’s been an emotional day. I miss him every day, but today was especially hard. Although he can’t be here with us, he has brought so much good. Starting Nathaniel’s Childhood Cancer Foundation in his memory was one of the best things we’ve ever done. Everything about our mission still rings true today. We want to bring joy and happiness to children battling cancer and their families, even if it’s just a glimpse of happiness in the middle of what they are enduring. I would do it a million times over.

I want families to know they are not alone. Walking the path of childhood cancer can feel isolating, like you are on an island that no one can fully understand. We want families to know we will walk alongside them if they want us to. Our hometown community continues to show up time after time for these families, just like they did for us. I will forever be grateful to our Gila Valley community for sending Nathaniel to Orca Islands for his final trip and for giving us a few more memories before he passed.

In case you haven’t seen, there are two more children in the Gila Valley who were recently diagnosed with cancer. If you can, please consider donating to their families. Our foundation plans to match the proceeds that the Safford Police Department raises, up to $10,000. God promises beauty for ashes, and we want to help bring that same beauty to other families during their hardest times.

All proceeds will go directly to support Liam and Janessa’s families. To maximize the impact made, we will be matching all funds raised, up to $10,000.

🍖 BBQ Plates – $20 each
• Approximately 670 plates available — 50 already sold!
• All proceeds go directly to the families

‼️ IMPORTANT ORDER INFORMATION ‼️

✅ Venmo Purchases:
When purchasing plates through Venmo, please include:
• Your name
• The number of plates you are buying

You will need to provide this same information when picking up your plates on April 11.

✅ Paper Tickets (Cash Option):
Officers will be going around town selling paper tickets for those who prefer to pay with cash.

If you purchase a paper ticket through Venmo, please include:
• “Paper Ticket” in the description
• The ticket number

✅ Donations:
If you would like to donate only, you can Venmo and simply put “donation” in the description.

💙 Matching Support:
Nathaniel’s Childhood Cancer Foundation will match our donations to these families, up to approximately $10,000—doubling the impact of our community’s generosity.
