An Urgent Statement
Regarding the Heinous Attack on the Imam of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque
The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs expresses its deepest sorrow and condemnation of the heinous attack that occurred yesterday evening at the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque in Paterson, New Jersey, which targeted the Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Sayed Al-Naqib, and caused panic and terror among innocent worshipers during their prayers.
This terrorist act has affected Muslims in the United States and Muslims around the world with grief, sorrow, and concern for their worshiping role. We declare our full solidarity with the Imam, the victims' families, and the Islamic community in New Jersey.
The house of worship is a place of security and safety for everyone who enters it, and it is not permissible in any way to intimidate or terrify its people, as well as harm, injure, or kill them. "And who are more unjust than those who prevent the name of Allah from being mentioned in His mosques and strive toward their destruction. It is not for them to enter them except in fear. For them in this world is disgrace, and they will have in the Hereafter a great punishment."
We call on the authorities concerned to investigate this heinous incident and bring the responsibles to justice quickly. We also urge them to make every possible effort to protect the places of worship, Imams, and worshipers throughout the country.
We also call on all Imams, Speakers , scholars and everyone is working in Islamic Dawah in the United States to unite in a union that is based on their care and the preservation of their rights. The Council has taken it upon itself to start this union, and we call on all those concerned to cooperate to ensure that this initiative succeeds in providing the Imams and with the social and legal care they deserve.
The Council calls on the Muslim community in the United States to take care of their places of worship and fill them with prayers in these blessed days, and to pray for security and peace to prevail in our community in the United States and throughout the world. We also call on all believers to stand united against calls for hatred and animosity.
We hope that this statement will send a strong message to the American community that Islam is a religion of peace and mercy.
