As students settle into a new school year, conversations at home can make a bigger difference than we realize.
Instead of only asking:
"How was school?"
Try questions that encourage more than a one-word answer:
๐ What was the best part of your day?
๐ What was challenging today?
๐ Did you learn anything that surprised you?
๐ Who made you laugh today?
๐ Is there anything you need help with?
๐ What's one thing you'd like to accomplish this week?
These small conversations can help young people feel heard, supported, and more comfortable talking about what's happening in their lives.
Sometimes the most important thing we can give a young person isn't advice.
It's our attention. ๐
