The Texarkana Area Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation, is served by a local Board of 14 persons. One of these is William Morriss. William is well known in Texarkana for his work in philanthropy. William was one of the founding Board members of the Texarkana Area Community Foundation in July, 1986 and has served on the board for the 40 years since. Pictured is William receiving the Lugean Chilcote Award in Little Rock on April 16, 2026. The award is granted by the State Board of Directors and the occasion was the 50th anniversary Summit of the Arkansas Community Foundation. It was the only award given at the Summit and is a state-wide recognition for outstanding service to philanthropy. William was recognized for a lifetime of service to Texarkana and to the Arkansas Community Foundation through the local Board of the Texarkana Affiliate.

Board Members from the Texarkana Area Community attended the 50th Anniversary Summit of the Arkansas Community Foundation today in Little Rock. At lunch, Board members from across the state met the new CEO Jessica Ford. William Morriss received the Statewide Lucien Chilcote award for his 40 years of service at the afternoon Summit session. Board members in attendance were William Morriss. Clay Roberts, Cindy Marsh, Andrea Chewning and Mark Bledsoe.

Over the next few weeks I will be introducing our Board of Directors, but thought I would introduce myself first. I am Ken Cox, Executive Director of the Texarkana Area Community Foundation. TACF is one 29 Affiliate offices of the Arkansas Community Foundation. With just over $1 Billion in funds, ARCF significantly impacts the philanthropy of Arkansas. I live in Bowie County and all nonprofits in this county are served by ARCF as if they were located in Arkansas. TACF also serves Miller, Little River, Sevier, Hempstead, and Howard Counties in Arkansas. I began as ED in July, 2012 and love my job. In November, 2025 we granted just over $100,000 to nonprofits in the 6 counties we serve. If you would like more info., or would like to apply for a grant in July, 2026. The Clay and Margaret Godfrey Memorial Agricultural Scholarship honors the legacy of two individuals who believed deeply in hard work, stewardship of the land, and investing in future generations. Through this scholarship, their commitment to agriculture and helping others continues to make a lasting impact.

This scholarship is available to students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university who are pursuing a degree in agricultural science.

The 2025 Arkansas Community Foundation Annual Report is here, and it’s all about people.

This year we celebrate stories like Ruth Wood of Eureka Springs, whose lifetime of giving shows what generosity truly looks like in Arkansas. Her work, and the work of countless donors and partners, helped us invest millions in communities across the state.

Together, we made $67 million in grants, supported local solutions from education to food access, and reminded ourselves that the future is bright when we give together.

I’m a little sad today as our Arkansas Community Foundation CEO, Heather Larkin, pictured with the horse, is leaving today after 27 years at the Foundation. She hired me 13 years ago to serve the Texarkana Area and I have enjoyed the incredibly positive, generous, and progressive culture created through her leadership. The foundation’s assets have recently reached $1 billion! (Locally our funds are just over $9 million.) The bright spot is her successor is Jessica Ford, an incredible talent who has served as our Communications Director over the last few years. We are all looking forward to a great future with her.

We had our annual grant prsentations last night at Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities center. About 60 organizations received $120,000. Here’s the group photo and the presentation to United Way of Greater Texarkana.
