Also popular with young people is our Airport Rescue Firefighter Truck! We also have a life size Buzz Aldrin Cutout that will be a great photo Op for both children and adults alike!

The primary purpose of the New Jersey Aviation Hall of Fame Museum's Open Cockpit events provides a hands-on, engaging experience for visitors to get inside and operate historic and iconic aircraft, making the state's rich aviation and space heritage more accessible and inspiring visitors to learn about aviation. These events allow people to sit in various cockpits and explore aircraft, fostering a deeper connection to aviation history and inspiring future generations.

Key purposes and aspects of these events…

• Hands-on Experience: The events offer the unique opportunity to sit in the cockpits of real, historically significant aircraft, such as the Lockheed Bushmaster, Bell 47 helicopter (famous from the Korean War), and a U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter.
• Education and Inspiration: By allowing visitors to physically interact with these machines, the events serve as powerful educational tools, bringing the stories of flight and the people who pioneered them to life.
• Accessibility: Open Cockpit events make the museum's collection more accessible, allowing people to explore the interior of the aircraft in a way that is not normally possible.
• Preservation of Heritage: The events contribute to the museum's broader mission of preserving and celebrating New Jersey's aviation and space heritage.
• Interactive Fun: Visitors can also explore other areas, such as the cabin of the Martin 202A Airliner or the official Airport Rescue Firefighter Truck, making for a fun and memorable day out for families.
• Engagement with New Audiences: The interactive nature of the events is particularly popular with younger visitors, fostering a love for aviation and inspiring potential future pilots and engineers.

Our Volunteers look forward to seeing you and your family!
