I wanted to share an update regarding the Florida Division of Historical Resources Special Category Grant opportunity for the VIA Hall preservation project and let everyone know the progress that has already been made.
To date, I have assembled several important components of a competitive application, including:
• Review of the state grant guidelines and eligibility requirements• Professional contractor estimate for structural stabilization and foundation-related repairs• Support letters already secured, including community and elected official support• Draft project narrative outlining the historic significance of the VIA Hall and its ongoing public benefit• Preliminary budget framework and scope of work based on identified structural needs• Organizational documentation for the Terra Ceia Island Preservation Foundation, Inc.
The VIA Hall is a strong candidate because it is a historic community landmark that continues to serve public purposes including meetings, civic functions, elections, and emergency gathering needs.
There are still several items to finalize, including confirmation of property ownership/legal entity status, formal owner concurrence for the application, matching funds strategy, and completion of the supporting materials package.
My goal is to submit the strongest and most professional application possible in hopes of bringing meaningful outside funding to help preserve the hall.
I wanted everyone to know that significant groundwork has already been completed, and I will continue to keep everyone & the board members updated as next steps develop.
Thank you all for your support and shared commitment to preserving this special place for future generations.
Warmly,
Kimberly Wehrmann
