James Stack's Cancer Fight

James Stack's Cancer Fight Firefighter/Paramedic James Stack was diagnosed with stage 4 Non Hodgkins TCell Lymphoma and has just started the fight for his life. Thank you so much!

All events, information and updates will be added to this page to keep everything all in one place. To whoever is reading this, welcome to my page! My name is James, and I’m a firefighter Paramedic for Tequesta Fire Rescue located in northern Palm Beach County, Florida. Recently, my life changed when I was diagnosed with the big "C" word, cancer. Non-Hodgkin’s T cell Lymphoma, is what the diagnosi

s read as my oncologist reluctantly told me the bad news. This rare cancer is usually only found in people ages 65 and older, but as it seems it is much more common in the fire fighting community. As firefighters we understand that we are at a much higher risk for numerous things— danger, injuries and illness included. In addition, we know we have a significantly higher chance of being diagnosed with cancer. When reading this, I want you to realize that this page is not really about me. Yes, it’s about my story and my fight with cancer— but the real message I want to convey to the world is, that firefighters accept all these risks in order to be your hero, we live and breathe to help other people in any way we can. So that when you call for help, we are there for you. Now, some may call that a hero, but we call it our purpose. Today I hope you decide to help in anyway you can, not just for me— but for anyone that needs a bone marrow transplant like I do. I ask for all the visitors that have come to my page to prove to me that humanity is still alive and well, and that the world is full of inherently good people. I truly believe that with each other, we can get through anything. With each other, we can change the world . I know I will beat this cancer because I am a fighter and because I have support from all of you! Be safe and God bless you all!

Something we are all too familiar with.

January 3rd, 2022 begins Week 1 of Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month! During this week we will address why cancer is the number-one line-of-duty death in the fire service. Additionally, we will deliver content that defines cancer, explains the scope of occupational cancer in the fire service, and identifies carcinogens, occupational exposures, and other chemicals found in products of combustion.

Here’s what you can do to get the most out of this week! We recommend taking one day to commit to a safety stand down. During this safety stand down you should present the Module #1 PowerPoint presentation addressing the scope of the fire service cancer problem. A 22-slide presentation describing the scope and trends for the occupational cancer in firefighters. Along with this safety stand down you will be provided with infographics, multiple training briefs, and other helpful resources.

Hi friends. It’s getting close to the time for me to get my stem cell transplant in Miami. During this process I will need a caretaker to assist me with driving to and from doctors appointments and staying with me throughout the process of recovery in an outpatient capacity. The projected time frame would be 2 weeks pre transplant(caretaker needed). I will be admitted into the hospital for approximately 4 weeks(no caretaker needed during this time) and then about 3-4 weeks post transplant outpatient(caretaker needed). I am obviously looking to pay and employ someone who has experience and a medical background a nurse or cna preferably. Please share this post or recommend anyone who would be interested. Thank you all so much!!

*3 month update*
Coming up on my 5th chemo cycle of 6 before my stem cell transplant.
Current weight is 235 (up from 195 at diagnosis 😬)
I am officially a pescatarian (vegetarian that eats fish and egg proteins on occasion)
I still make myself workout 5 days a week, no excuses allowed.
I am also so blessed to say that I am officially IN REMISSION!! GOD IS GREAT!
Still a long road to go until I am cured of this disease, but with the support of you all and god almighty I WILL beat this!! I love you all!

This is unbelievable. This puts many of the citizens of New York city, and the boroughs they serve in grave danger. These men and women served throughout the pandemic. It’s their right to choose if they want to be vaccinated or not just as it is yours.I ask everybody I know to share this post, and I request all the citizens of New York, or any of the boroughs and cities that the FDNY serves to stand up against this mandate. This can severely impact life safety for you and your families in an emergency. god bless

Just because we’re not on the news as much, doesn’t mean we’re still not out here working for James!

A Tequesta firefighter needs a stem cell/bone marrow donor. Stop by HCI College in today or tomorrow to see if you are a match.

I just wanted to say a huge Thank You to the Okell family for this generous donation. Tequesta Fire Rescue had run on Grandma Mae throughout the years and her family Matthew George, George Okell and Deb Okell were always very appreciative of TFR. However, we were really taken back by doing something so selfless during their time of mourning. The most amazing fact to us is James has never actually been on a call for Mae, the family just wanted to show their appreciation and help our brother during his time of need. We truly live and work in a very special place. Thank you to the Okell family from all of us!
