You can help by shopping through the artisan crafts and make some your own. Welcome to our Central American Mission Endeavor Page! We (John & Ronda) created this page to update friends, family and partners while we are serving as missionaries to Costa Rica. We came to Costa Rica as a part of a Breaking Free Ministry Team and were blessed by their coverage and support for a season, but we have now
transitioned under the coverage of our home church, Legacy Church under Legacy Missions. We are excited about this transition as the ministry avenues we use to accomplish the mission here continue to be more defined. All of the ministry aspects that we operate under here in Central America are saturated with Legacy Church DNA: worship, love & acceptance, the good news of grace, and discipleship. Our heart to share Christ’s community of love with the nations and Costa Rica in particular, has been and continues to be nurtured by our pastors and church family at Legacy Church. Our mission remains the same: to help the hurting meet Jesus, empowering those we serve to do the same as we help people who are far from God be raised to life in Christ … everything pretty much flows from there. Our primary focus is the Indigenous Ngäbe people who live near the Costa Rica/ Panamanian border. The Lord has given us an overwhelming love for these precious people. They live in 3rd world conditions on coffee farms without electricity and running water. We primarily introduce them to Jesus by loving them as well as by sharing His word through a lifestyle of love and worship. We also help to meet immediate needs and though we provided food for them at first, we now are developing an industry that empowers the families to have a method of earning money outside of coffee season. They typically have large families and it is not uncommon for 18 or 20 to live together in a very small primitive living environment. An industry is growing as we work with the women to make Chácaras (traditional Ngäbe purses) and as we introduce jewelry making to them as well. We help them sell their crafts to our friends and supporters in the states which in turn allows them to buy their own food and meet their family’s needs verses us meeting those needs for them. This part of the ministry continues to grow and be refined. The goal is for the quality of their crafts to be high and that the women would also have a better understanding of how to manage their money in a way that will consistently provide for their families rather than sporadically. We work alongside a Ngäbe pastor and several Costa Ricans who help us reach out to these communities. Other Ngäbe Christians are rising up and joining what God is doing in these indigenous communities as well. Right now we work with 4 communities but have just added a regular worship. We have a vision for a community center/church that would serve the cluster of communities in this impoverished area yet we are prayerfully watching to see the doors that God opens to meet the needs in these communities in His way. As an additional ministry opportunity we have also been offering free English Classes to those the Lord sends our way and have had many Ngäbe people join our classes… of course we include the gospel with each lesson and look for what God wants to do within each student. we have also recently started reading classes for adults and children. Until residency is obtained we will be returning to the states at least twice a year and would love to share mission updates with partners, churches and other organizations upon request. Please message if you have any questions. Some are called to go and some are called to send but both are equally important. Learn More...
