Friends of Tenino

Friends of Tenino The original FOT group included citizens and city officials, the idea was to break down the communication barriers and tackle the logging issue cooperatively.

Friends of Tenino (FOT) started in 2007 when a group of Tenino area citizens began meeting to discuss local issues of concern, specifically a planned logging operation on the property at the top of the quarry pool. The problem with the logging was that it would have cleared the hillside immediately on top of the pool, all the way to the edge of the quarry, tarnishing the visual aesthetic of the ic

onic quarry pool. Members of the Friends of Tenino organized a Quarry Task Force including citizens, city officials and the Creekside Conservancy to begin negotiations with the logging company. The group was given authority to negotiate by a vote of the city council. The FOT was instrumental in the negociations , identifying grants, matching funds and presenting the grant proposal to the RCO grant review board. The grant was awarded to the city of Tenino and with the generosity of the logging company, 20 or so acres of forest were added to the park, beginning at the Creekside Conservancy property in the east to the quarry pool in the west. Since then, FOT has operated as a local information/news email list. We considered offering to set up websites for local businesses, but that never really took off. FOT donated the design of the City of Tenino and Creekside Conservancy websites. The group has prided itself on being unbiased most of the time and was involved with several past elections, conducting interviews with candidates and presenting the answers to the public. Thanks for your interest, let us know if you have any questions or would like to be added to the email list.

๐Ÿšจ Action needed: Stop the Chehalis Mega-Dam

A proposed mega-dam would devastate salmon runs, permanently damage one of the last free-flowing rivers in southwest Washington, and cost taxpayers billionsโ€”despite safer, proven flood-protection alternatives already on the table.

๐Ÿ—“ Public comments on the Draft EIS are due by 11:55pm on Wednesday, Feb. 4th.

Hey Soupers! Tomorrow (Dec. 6) is another opportunity to come yap in community and eat some yummy food! As always, everyone is welcome, feel free to hang out or take to go, all good! I will try to post the types/flavors asap. Also, please consider sharing this, and responding to the survey QR code, or post a comment or pm if there are barriers, concerns, suggestions, etc. We want this to be welcoming and useful for folx, and are always happy to take feedback! โœŒ๏ธ*Side note, as this has come up... this is not a 'church event', there is no proselytizing, it is simply hosted at the church as they want to be of service, they are centrally located and have a great kitchen and dining area that function great for this weekly event. This is honestly one of the very few churches I have interacted with that I feel comfortable with and not any kind of pressure from. (I have religious trauma and a pretty big chip on my shoulder, so am empathetic to that wariness, so just wanted to be candid) :)
