The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Gazyvaยฎ (obinutuzumab) from Genentech to treat adults with active lupus nephritis in combination with standard of care.

This marks a major step forward for the entire lupus community, as it is the only anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody targeting an underlying cause of lupus nephritis, aiming to prevent or delay progression to end-stage kidney disease often resulting in dialysis or transplantation.
