The mid-winter summer comes to an end! Get ready for rain SLO County!

Be alert if you're planning on plunging tomorrow!

For the first day of 2026, the tides could be higher than expected, and here is why. 🤽

The tides are currently running 4 to 6 inches higher than predicted due to thermal expansion of the water column at Port San Luis.📏

Sea surface temperatures typically hover around 56°F at this time of the year, but are presently near 61°F.🌡️

Coupled with the fresh to strong (19 to 31 mph) southwesterly winds🌬️expected around tomorrow morning’s high tide, water levels could reach approximately 7.3 feet, about half a foot above the predicted 6.8 feet high tide at 7:15 a.m. on January 1.🎉

Also, 4- to 6-foot southerly (180-degree shallow-water) seas will develop tomorrow morning. Remember, never turn your back on the ocean. 🌊

We love an achievable to-do list!

Winter storms are on the way and that means it’s time for a year-end stormwater protection checklist.

✅Clear leaves and debris from gutters and storm drains near your home
✅ Secure trash and recycling lids so wind and rain don’t scatter litter
✅ Sweep driveways and sidewalks instead of hosing them down
✅ Fix vehicle leaks and clean up spills

When we prepare early, we protect our waterways all season long.

Sycamores and other large leaves left in the street are a recipe for
blocked storm drains and messy roads! Street sweepers aren’t built for
the leafy load, so help create a clean path by binning them up in your green waste.

Wave goodbye to the rain clouds for just a bit!

Radar Update: Widespread rain is exiting Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo County, headed into Ventura and LA Counties this afternoon. More scattered showers are expected behind the front into Tuesday, along with a chance of thunderstorms. There's been areas of heavy downpours and some wind with the main front, and these heavier showers can lead to localized flooding issues, mud and rock slides, downed trees and reduced visibilities. Turn around, don't drive through flooded roadways.

A great event to help out this beautiful space!

Join LCSLO at the Lower San Luis Obispo Creek Floodplain Preserve to remove junk from the creek! In this case, junk not only includes trash, but invasive cape ivy. This plant spreads quickly and takes over our beautiful native vegetation. LCSLO has been managing cape ivy for multiple years and could use your help continuing that effort! SLO Creek is home to many floral and faunal species that will greatly benefit from a day's worth of clean-up.

More information about the specific meeting location will be sent to you before the day of the event. Bring your preferred sun protection, water bottle, gloves, and wear pants.

Terrain will be mostly flat through unpaved roads of orchards and work will not involve getting in the water.
In the event of rain, this event will be canceled.
