Today, we honor VE Day (Victory in Europe Day), marking May 8, 1945, when the Allies officially accepted N**i Germany's surrender, bringing an end to nearly six years of war in Europe. This day is a profound reminder of the bravery and sacrifices made by our veterans, who fought for freedom, safety, and peace.

VE Day not only celebrated the end of conflict for millions but also heralded the liberation of countless prisoners and survivors of concentration camps. It was a moment of communal relief, where barriers broke down as strangers embraced in the streets, and the lights of once-dark cities shone brightly again.

As we reflect on this day, let’s remember that while the battle in Europe ended, the fight against tyranny was far from over, reminding us of the ongoing importance of vigilance and unity.

Today, Texas VFW honors Loyalty Day, a day rooted in our proud history since 1921, originally recognized as 'Americanization Day' by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. This special day celebrates the ultimate loyalty demonstrated by our veterans through their sacrifices, as they safeguard our national freedoms.

Loyalty Day invites us all to reflect on and recommit to the core American values of liberty, justice, and equality.
