Just wanted to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all the volunteers who came out to Dundee today to help us with our SE regional swimming and volleyball tournament. We would especially like to thank Dundee high school for hosting us, Keri Salenbien and her volleyball players for setting up courts for us, Dr. Gandert and Robin for providing much needed medical services, Sara Whipple and Delaney Ostrowski for lifeguarding in the pool, Jim Watkins and crew for providing quality certified volleyball officials, Rusty and Sarah Eubanks for running the timing system, announcing, and providing timing volunteers from Dundee swim teams, Julie and Tammy from Milan for being swimming games committee, Katy Fillion from Area 20 and Tiffany Duran for staying all day and helping where needed, Andrea Irwin for making pulled pork for everyone, Sarah Przybylski for helping run swimming, MDOC officers who came to present awards, Sheila Pietrykowski and Lake Erie Hitters for keeping score and line judging ALL day, and the many middle and high school students who gave up a portion of their Saturday to help us run this event. We couldn’t do this event without all of our amazing volunteers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for showing up and providing the athletes with a quality experience!!! 💜

Unfortunately, this morning we had some unexpected delays in starting swimming due to circumstances outside of our volunteers/games committee’s control. I’m extremely disheartened and disappointed that when the announcement for the delay happened, that we had spectators and coaches who felt the need to boo the volunteers who were working so tirelessly to correct the problem.

If you’re reading this and you were someone who booed, shame on you! It is extremely difficult to find quality volunteers who are willing to give up a large portion of their time on a Saturday. Your actions make it that much more difficult in the future to get volunteers and may impact us not being able to run the event in the future.

Despite the delay, the issues were fixed and swimming was still able to finish in a timely manner, while allowing the athletes to compete in a quality competition. This is a testament to our swimming games committee and their expertise in running a quality swimming event. Thank you again swimming games committee and volunteers!! We truly appreciate you and the way you handled the issues this morning in a professional manner, even when not afforded the same respect.

Thanks again to all who volunteered today to allow us to provide this opportunity for the athletes. We are extremely grateful for our community!

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!!!
This is a great opportunity for middle school/high school/college students who are in need of volunteer hours.

Monroe County Special Olympics is hosting the SE regional volleyball and swimming tournament on Saturday May 2nd at Dundee High School.

Swimming will run from 9-3ish and we are looking for timers for the swimmers.
—We need 12 timers total (2 per lane). We currently have 8 people who are able to help.
We'd like to get at least 6-8 more volunteers. We can split the day into 2 shifts: 9-12 and 12-3.

Volleyball is running from 8:30-5 pm. For volleyball we will have 3 courts running and will need at least 2 volunteers per court per hour. We are looking for volunteers to:
—keep score/run the flipboard for volleyball--we are especially in need of help from 12pm-5 pm

We also could use some help with serving lunch (11am-1:30 pm)

We will feed all volunteers!!

Please reach out to Megan at 734-845-0012 if you are available to volunteer for a few hours on Saturday.
