🌊🌴ARIZONA WAVEMAKERS🌵🌊
Our inaugural Wavemaker is Billma Peter, a leader who is truly making waves for the Pacific Islander community in Arizona. Billma is a former Island Liaison intern and today she serves as a powerful cultural ambassador dedicated to elevating the community’s voice.

Anchored in Culture, Leading with Purpose - Billma’s Impact:
🌺Cultural Representation: Made history as the inaugural Miss Marshall Islands in 2019.
✏️ Academic Excellence: Holds a Healthcare Administration BS from the University of Arizona and an MHA from Taipei Medical University.
✊🏾 Grassroots Leadership: Co-founded the Arizona Marshallese Community (AMC) to uplift and support local families.
📋Advocacy & Recognition: Spearheaded the efforts behind the Arizona Governor’s Proclamation, which officially recognized the historical sacrifices and contributions of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI).

Thank you, Billma, for your leadership and for continuously paving the way for the Marshallese Community and Pacific Islanders across Arizona!

📣 Island Liaison is proud to launch our Arizona Wavemakers campaign 🌊

There is so much incredible good happening in our community, but there aren’t many platforms to celebrate these wins with and for each other. Island Liaison is changing that. 🌴
Each month, we will shine a spotlight on someone in our Arizona Pacific Islander community who is making a positive impact, leading with integrity, and lifting others up.

📣 We need YOUR help to find them!
Do you know an outstanding Arizona Pacific Islander community member making a difference? Help us honor them! Nominate a Wavemaker using the link above. 👆

Together, let’s turn these inspiring ripples into a tsunami of positivity that uplifts our entire community. 🌊💙

This evening, two of our board members attended the premiere of Arizona AANHPI for Equity’s documentary, “From the Sun to the Sea,” featuring our amazing founder, Claudia F. Kaercher. 🩵 The powerful narrative weaves through Arizona and Guam telling the story of the global climate crisis. 🌵🌴 It was moving to hear and see the impact of Super Typhoon Sinlaku and other tropical storms on the CHamoru community. 🇬🇺 Thank you to AZAANHPI for Equity for uplifting Pacific voices and fighting for climate justice. 🌏

Kumu Ka’imi Matthews-Valdez graced the valley with her deep love for hula, culture, and community. We were grateful to come together and honor her incredible legacy at her celebration of life.

Her children were part of the very first APACE cohort (formerly Asian LEAD Academy), carrying forward her spirit of leadership and service. She was also Aunty Claudia’s Kumu and dear friend, a connection that left a meaningful and lasting influence on our community.

Rest in aloha Kumu Ka’imi! A Hui Hou🤍🌺
