Kumu Ka’imi Matthews-Valdez graced the valley with her deep love for hula, culture, and community. We were grateful to come together and honor her incredible legacy at her celebration of life.

Her children were part of the very first APACE cohort (formerly Asian LEAD Academy), carrying forward her spirit of leadership and service. She was also Aunty Claudia’s Kumu and dear friend, a connection that left a meaningful and lasting influence on our community.

Speaking of volunteers, our hearts are full after the Girls Scouts 2025 Volunteer Recognition and Awards Ceremony! 💚🌟

Shoutout to Aunty Claudia and JakinDee for earning the Pearl Award, recognizing volunteers who go above and beyond to support the council’s response team efforts and ensure girls and adults get the service they deserve.

Plus, cheers to JakinDee, who also took home the Volunteer of Excellence award for outstanding service in delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and helping build girls of courage, confidence, and character. We at Island Liaison are so proud of everything they do in the community! 🤩✨

Happy International Volunteer Day! 🩵 Today we honor the people whose passion, time, and heart keep our communities moving forward. Established by the UN in 1985, this day recognizes volunteers’ global impact on social and economic development.
