National History Day in Arizona NHDAZ: Making history come alive for Arizona's students!

National History Day makes history come alive for America's youth by engaging them in the discovery of the historic, cultural and social experiences of the past. Through hands-on experiences and presentations, today's youth are better able to inform the present and shape the future. NHD inspires children through exciting competitions and transforms teaching through project-based curriculum and instruction.

💃🕺 Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to groove! National History Day Nationals is almost here!

This weekend, NHDAZ students, teachers, staff, & chaperones will begin their journey to the National Contest in Maryland where months of hard work, research, and creativity will take center stage.

The excitement officially kicks off with the Welcome Ceremony on June 14th, bringing together students from across the country to celebrate history, scholarship, and achievement.

We are so proud of our Arizona students and can’t wait to watch them shine on the national stage. Safe travels, good luck, and don’t forget to have fun along the way! 🌵📚⭐

What an incredible National History Day Arizona success story! 🌟

Earlier this year, Mateo dedicated himself to researching Arizona music legend Alice Cooper for his National History Day project, writing a 12-page essay that showcased the power of student-driven historical research.

Thanks to the support of an outstanding educator, a determined school principal, and a community that believes in celebrating student achievement, Mateo’s project made its way to Alice Cooper himself! 🎸👩🏻‍🎤

Not only did Alice Cooper take the time to read Mateo’s work, but he also signed the essay with an “A+” and gifted Mateo an autographed album — creating a memory that will last a lifetime.

This is what National History Day is all about: inspiring students to explore the past, develop their research skills, and discover meaningful connections between history and the world around them.

Congratulations, Mateo! Your hard work, curiosity, and dedication truly paid off. 👏🏼✨

🥳 Big congratulations to Donna Gustafson, NHD Teacher of the Year nominee in the junior division! ⭐️

Donna is a gifted Social Studies teacher for 7th and 8th graders in Chandler, AZ, with 23 years of experience shaping young minds. She holds a Bachelor's from the University of Arizona, a Master's in WWII Studies from ASU, and is a Harvard Fellow in Holocaust Studies. 🏫🌍
