National Trails Day is this Saturday, June 6.

Whether you're hiking a trail, riding an OHV route, volunteering on a work project, attending a club event, or simply enjoying America's public lands with family and friends, take a moment to appreciate the roads, trails, dunes, and open spaces that make outdoor recreation possible.

Good trails and recreation areas don't maintain themselves. They depend on partnerships, stewardship, volunteerism, and people willing to give back to the places they enjoy.

If you're out this weekend, consider picking up a little trash, helping with a trail project, mentoring a new user, or simply leaving the area better than you found it.

That's how we keep access alive.

Happy National Trails Day from the American Sand Association.

The dunes don’t stay open by accident.

Every season, there are groups pushing for more closures, more restrictions, and less access to places we love like Glamis. The truth is simple: without strong support, we lose ground.

The American Sand Association is out there every day — fighting for access, showing up at meetings, supporting science, working with agencies, and standing between our community and those who want to shut us down.

We are the “fingers in the dike.”

Now’s the time for the dune community to step up. Support the mission AND get entered to win an incredible custom wheel and tire package from OMF and STU Tires — or take the cash option!

Your support helps ASA continue to:
• UNITE the dune community
• INFORM riders and families
• MOBILIZE action to protect access

Don’t sit this one out. The future of our dunes depends on people who are willing to get skin in the game.

Cinco de Mayo: Heritage, History, and Respect

Cinco de Mayo, observed each year on May 5, is a meaningful celebration of Mexico’s heritage, resilience, and enduring spirit. While often mistaken for Mexican Independence Day, the holiday actually commemorates Mexico’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862—a powerful reminder of determination against overwhelming odds.

For those of us who recreate across the dunes, deserts and public lands of the American Southwest, this day offers more than history—it offers perspective. Many of the landscapes we enjoy today carry deep cultural roots shaped by generations of Mexican settlers and traditions. From historic routes and place names to architecture, food, and community values, that influence remains an important part of our shared outdoor experience.

Cinco de Mayo is an opportunity to recognize and appreciate those contributions. Whether it’s supporting local Mexican-owned businesses, enjoying authentic cuisine, attending cultural events, or simply reflecting on the history behind the day, there are many ways to honor its significance.

And as always in the dunes and on the trail, celebration goes hand in hand with responsibility. Respect the land, stay on designated routes, pack it in and pack it out, and help ensure these special places remain open and enjoyable for future generations.

From all of us in the off-road and sand dune community—

Celebrate with respect. Ride responsibly.

¡Viva México! 🇲🇽
