We've published an updated article explaining the WEMO closures, how they affect these historic desert communities, and what CORVA and our partners are doing to protect access while BLM completes its court-ordered planning process.

Planning on spending plenty of time at the Imperial Sand Dunes this season? Get your 2026–27 ISDRA Season Permit through the American Sand Association and help support the organization working to protect your right to ride.

Season permits are valid October 1, 2026 through April 15, 2027.

When you purchase your permit through ASA, a portion of the proceeds goes directly to ASA to help support our ongoing efforts to keep the dunes open and accessible for motorized recreation.

📬 A $5 shipping fee is included for each permit to cover insured shipping. Your permit will arrive in a manila envelope, so keep an eye on your mailbox! Please allow at least one week for delivery.

Only visiting for a week? Weekly permits are $55 when purchased in advance/off-site, or $70 when purchased at the dunes.

Important update on the new Ranger Station construction at Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA), especially the closures at Cement Flats.

Construction is underway on a new Cahuilla Ranger Station at Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, and BLM is taking steps to make sure emergency medical services, law enforcement, and on-site ISDRA fee permit sales continue without interruption during the build.

As of September 8, 2026, the Cement Flats area (off Highway 78 near Brawley, in the El Centro Field Office's California Desert District) is temporarily hosting a ranger station while the new facility is constructed. The existing ranger station was vacated in April 2026 ahead of demolition, and the new station is expected to be complete no later than spring 2028.

Cement Flats was chosen for its proximity to the existing station, easy access to Highway 78, and comparatively limited camping use versus other areas in the ISDRA. The area is closed to camping and recreational use for the duration, through February 2028. Federal, state, and local officers, organized medical/rescue/firefighting personnel, BLM employees and contractors, and parties with written BLM approval are exempt.
