ACCIS member Jim Mahoney (The Blake School) recently visited Centre College and shared his takeaways:

“Centre College is a gem of a liberal arts institution, balancing a rich history with a future-focused student body. Tucked into bucolic horse country in Danville, Kentucky, Centre meets full need for admitted applicants through 'The Centre Promise.'

Centre features many areas of distinction, including a first-rate Division III athletic program, guaranteed housing for four years on campus (where 98% of undergraduates live), robust merit scholarship resources, and a faculty eager to support student success. Most of all, Centre students genuinely seek connection with faculty, their areas of study, and each other. It’s a warm campus, intellectually energized, and a place where students truly seem happy.

Centre’s arts programs include a first-rate glass-blowing program, which we enjoyed on a mellow May evening – the authentic, supportive communuity in that space aptly reflected Centre’s motto – 'Learning Is The Light of the Mind.'"

Friday fun time! 🐾 We're looking back at some of the adorable pets featured in recent Brief issues. In today's retrospective, Boo and Dawson not only fit at Middlebury. but also fit as roommates!

🧀 Boo’s talkative nature brings out the best in sometimes-introverted Dawson, who in turn inspires Boo to embrace all things dairy. They join an intramural tennis team, practice languages together over ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s, and volunteer at Middlebury’s student-run organic farm. Outgoing Boo recruits Madison, a Student Admissions Ambassador badger from Wisconsin—a real “numbers badger” majoring in Accounting. The trio founds their It’s Momma! Hello! organic cheese curd campus food truck business to help pay tuition. Chef Dawson becomes a New England legend with his secret lobster cheese curd recipe. Boo, Director of Communications, double majors in Marketing and German.

🐦 Julia Kobus Patil of Buckingham Browne & Nichols School believes that as a talkative guy, Boo would love to dive into language study at Middlebury. His vocabulary (It's Momma! Hello! Bye Boo!) is rather limited at the moment, but the small class sizes, emphasis on language immersion, and the easy-going nature of Middlebury students would help him to expand his lexicon. Maybe he'll speak German next?

🐶 Jordan Oxman of Phillips Academy Andover shares that Dawson has a passion for dairy. Middlebury’s organic on-campus farm and Vermont’s affinity for all things Ben & Jerry’s guarantees that there would be a lot of vanilla ice cream in his undergraduate career. The student-run farm + the strong tennis program (loves a tennis ball) + small size (he’s a bit of an introvert and thus seeks a personal and tightknit community) + proximity to mom and dad in Boston all hit his essential criteria. Dawson heavily considered the B.S. in Dairy Science at Wisconsin Loves a cheese curd. He visited their on-campus ice cream shop where they sell ice cream from their farm, but it would be hard for him to make the tennis team.

ACCIS member Britten Nelson (University Prep) recently took part in the UC Davis counselor tour and shared her takeaways:

"We had the opportunity to visit the Coffee Center (where students and faculty research, roast, and prepare coffee!), the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science (the on-campus viticulture and enology program), the botanical conservancy (with some really cool rare plant specimens, and the horse stables (where I got up close and personal with a few of the horses, even though I'm kind of scared of them). My big takeaway is that UC-Davis has some impressive hands-on programs in some very specific academic disciplines."

Friday fun time! 🐾 We're looking back at some of the adorable pets and their perfect college matches featured in recent Brief issues—check them out and get inspired!

❤ Jazmin John of McDonogh School believes that Juno belongs at Brown, and Olive belongs at Spelman: "Juno enjoys having full range over his learning and would want to explore "Advanced Studies in Fetch & Anthropology." Olive would go to Spelman College. She is definitely a girls’ girl and would want to pledge in the Divine Nine. "

❤ Elizabeth Young of Baylor School believes that Tuck would fit right in at Georgia Tech: "Tuck was rescued from the PetSmart parking lot in Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia—where only the smartest dogs are from—so we think he would have a chance as an in-state applicant. He is most interested in the Agricultural Technology Research Program and hopes to become a leading expert in the peanut(butter) industry before becoming POTUS like his favorite Tech alum, Jimmy Carter."
